My truck recently made the same upgrade. Did injectors too. My dad said the truck felt 10 times more powerful. You'll like it. I've seen pump removal tools on some diesel shop websites and i assume it is otherwise straight forward.

Why spend the money on one????. .

You already have a good P-Pump,just have a reputable pump shop go over it and use the money you would use for the 215 pump to get the CC flow you desire. I hear alot of owners say that they wish to do this change but if they would use the vast resources here at their hands they would see they could spend their money more wisely... ... ... ... ... ... . Andy

A 160 pump won't flow near as much a 215 pump is capable of delivering. IIRC, the 215 has a double helix, and the 160 has 1. Might be able to flow the same number of CCs as a stock 215 pump, maybe a little bit more, that would be about it.

so the pump has the same mounting holes and a direct fite no maching

Only the guts are different. IIRC, Piers uses 160 pumps as cores for the Stoopid pumps. Cheaper. Could have the 215 guts put in a 160 pump.

My buddy has a 160 pump but with the fuel plate slid and a super B turbo he putting out about 250 hp. He put the delivery valves from his broken 215 pump into his 160 pump, but at about 1000 rpms it has a slite miss. The miss is only at 1000 rpms;any idea whats wrong? Also the highest boost he gets is about 33 psi with his super B turbo. Is it wastegated or how can you get higher boost with this turbo?

You can do a lot with a 160 pump, like Hammer said. What is your goal, horsepower-wise? What do you intend to use your truck for? Daily driver? Towing heavy? Drag racing? Dyno queen? Sled puller? You just need to be realistic about what you want to do with the truck and how much power you want to have, and set things up accordingly. Otherwise you'll spend a whole bunch of money buying stuff, then getting rid of it because you outgrew it or it wasn't what you really wanted.

well, you're probably not going to outgrow a 215 pump any time soon... I think Fulmer's most recent numbers were right around 850rwhp?

you can "do a lot" with a 160 pump, but it's never going to put out what a 215 pump will.

you can send it to a pump shop and have them put a 215 cam in it, but then you have a 180 pump and not a 160 pump.

the 160 really does limit you, and I think a 215 swap is one of the best mods you can make for the money!!!!

A 215 pump is a good mod, for sure. But if your goal is 300 or 400 horse, it's a lot cheaper to mod a 160 pump already in the truck than it is to spend the coin it takes to get a 215, and then still end up fooling with the plate, putting in a GSK, DV's, bumping the timing, and so forth. It just depends on the intended use of the truck. Could be the 215 pump is the way to go.

I did 356hp with a 160hp pump and a stock turbo. Just did a 0 plate, 022 dvs,4kgsk, timing at 17* and 370 injectors. Other than that it was stock. Ofcourse I like my 215 pump a lot more but the 160 pump is capable of decent hp.

Ask Matt where he got the 215 Pump :-laf

Moose, you drive one of them over-valved VP-pumped trucks, don't you?

Yes, It would apear to be so; "2000 Maroon Quad-Cab Shortbed 4X4 TNL Auto; Thanks Mike" as my Signature block states. But I have learend a lot from you P7100 Guys:-laf How's your truck running? Moose

just for comparason's sake, I did 535rwhp with a 215 pump, home ground plate, DDP4's, and a 62mm turbo :)

That's just about what Matt runs now. Quite a leap between the 2 setups. It just depends on what you're after, which is directly proportional to how deep your pockets are. :-laf

If you are just going to swap a 215 pump onto a 160 engine, be advised that, although a technicality, the pistons are not as "good" in the lower hp engines for taking abuse. They will hold up under normal usage and mild mods but the 215 has a better piston in it. They are the same ones used in the 230hp Freightliner 5. 9 Shadrach
