Yes they plug into the truck. You would buy a Smarty S-06 or Junior, it's a stand alone programer requiring external gauges.

UDC is like EFI Live in that you write a custom tune that you load into the Smarty box and load the truck with.

You would just need to purchase a UDC dongle($300.) to incorporate with the S06, good to go.

ok. I understand what the udc does for the most part. but how does it come? with paramaters loaded, and ready to tweak? without tunes loaded and completely up to the end user to navigate through?

It comes with sample tunes that are similar to the "boxed" Smarty tunes. Then you tweak them to your preference...having said that, I have yet to plug my UDC dongle into my laptop after almost a year I do not feel confident navigating the software as I'm an old fart who is not technically savvy.

I have been using UDC for about 2 years now, and it took the better part of the first year to get good at it. I can now write a tune in no time, and have a good idea of what each truck needs from the tune based on mods.

There is a timing calculator I made posted on compD, and some good threads on starting your tuning.
