Thanks, TDR Staff

For those that spend time on the Powerstroke/ Duramax sites...

Do 6.0s make water???

Unloaded my Dmax for this Cummins. Funny how we all play musical trucks. Love this Dodge so far! 14,500 miles

LOL, this guy cracks me up! First of all, i don't care what you think. Stick to your old dodges, i could care less. All i'm doing is encouraging and congradulating this person on their new truck, not going around saying this sucks that sucks blah blah blah. So what if they had some problems, all vehicles will. So keep your negative BS to yourself and let him enjoy his new truck. By the way, you go to any horse show at any time and tell me how many PSD's you see. I guess that is a lot of Ford propaganda!!

Misery loves company..... :{ :{

Well everybody makes mistakes from time to time LOL. In my opinion, the Fords are decent at best, we have five in our fleet from 7. 3 natural aspirated to the new 6. 0 psd. They all have their problems and driving them all quite a bit I know that I made the right choice with ctd, and I was one of the guys who thought the dodge truck was no good, but I hadn't owned one. Know that I do I love it and think its better put together than the Fords. I know alot of people who own them (PSD) and it's almost a status symbol where I live, I hope you like your new truck and it works well for you, PM me if you would like real world honest Ford problems and performance.

Hold on a second. Why are you getting all worked up? I sincerely hope he does enjoy his new truck, but comments like " Ford simply makes the best truck right now" invites a certain level of civilized "debate", as does your contention that the 6. 0 litre is good to go and "all the bugs are worked out". This is a Dodge/Cummins forum, after all. FWIW, the "bugs" the 6. 0 PSD has/had are far beyond what I would consider reasonable for a new product release.

The fact that Ford sells more trucks than Dodge does NOT mean the Ford is a better truck. McDonalds sells an awful lot of hamburgers.

Man I understand what you were going through I had the 05 on order and just happened to go by Cerritos Ford and see a fully loaded F-350 crew cab sun roof 4X4 Leather trailer controller you name it, it had it. but after hearing the length of the arbitration hearings I only hope your name does'nt get added to it. My brother and alot of guys I work with are big ford fans and we go back and forth all the time. I just could not imagine buying one and then running into problems knowing what I know now. Your right when you think that Ford has alot to offer but the Dodge Cummins has just been to good to myself and my family.

My brothers 6. 0 Fraud is in the shop, again, I'm sure he'd make you a deal on it, I'll set it up.

Good Luck in Ford Country.

Best wishes with your new truck, and make sure to keep us posted on your experience. My buddy has an 01 F250 PSD 6 spd and beats the **** out of it daily. He hasn't had any problems and I wish you the same good fortune.

I had the 1983 6. 9 Ford when it first came out and loved it. Bought the 1995 Powerstroke when it came out and infact still have it. The 6. 0 with all the problems scarred me off buying the new Ford. What I have heard its been mostly computer related and they have worked most the problems out. All I can say is good luck and I hope it will be another 10 years before I will need another one.

I just got in from 31/2 hrs of towing with my friends 04 6. 0 with the attitude and juice and all I have to say is what a POS! NO TQ! Had to keep it reved and 75 to 80 mph. There was power there but it was not usable. It would get to 1250 deg in a heart beat and it was over. I'm not sure why there is such a rave about the fords in my area, I guess the never towed with a dodge cummins!

Good luck. I just drove my friends 05 (replacement for the bad 03 6. 0), not really impressed. No low end torque, not very responsive, cab noise from engine, hard to get out of with the buckets, and the dash was bean counter inspired. I would hardly say it was the best built truck either. And where the heck did they put that 6. 0? I had to have him show me where it was under all of the plumbing and sensors. I would hate to have to work on one. I guess that is why the cab has quick release latches on it?

To each his own, I'm not impressed. And there are still to many problems with the 6. 0 motor, and the torque shift doesn't seem to be much better in the quality department from what I have seen. Quite a few blown trannies over at mydieselstopped.com, seems to be a buggy design.

I know 4 people with the 6. 0, 2 bought back, 2 still running. That is a 50/50 chance of getting a good one. All 6 of the 03+ CTD owners I know, including myself, have had minimal, if not any problems. Good Luck!

Mike

Well good luck with the Ford. I don't think you'll need the luck. It's a good truck. I spent a whole weekend driving a brand new 05, put 1500 miles on it. GREAT truck. I have to admitt, when I found out yesterday that my ball joints are shot at 27000 miles... . I probably should have bought a Ford. I baby this truck and the JUNK DC puts on it just makes me sick. I like my truck, but they better get their junk together because the competition is too great for mess ups.

A great engine doesn't do much without a truck around it. A solid truck and trans, makes a mediorcre engine look GOOD.

After what my friends and others went through with their Ford's, a bad set of ball joints would have been a pleasure to deal with. At least ball joints are fixable.

Mike

At least this thread is still civil. Try posting this at a Ford site, switching to Dodge, because it is a better truck. Now talk about having some fun!

I hope you considered some independant information like this report from J. D. Powers comparing modern diesel engine reliability.

Of the greatest interest to you might be that Dodge Cummins trucks showed 41% FEWER problems than their gasoline powered versions whereas the Ford SD Powerstrokes show 430% MORE problems than their gasoline powered versions. :--) :--) :--) Of course, maybe they finally got everything fixed on their latest round of reflashes where they had to eliminate a pilot injection event to keep it simpler. I think they are on reflash 5 or 6 or something. Of course we know how Ford finally took care of all those 7. 3 "cackler" engines. :-laf Now rumor is of Ford going to a new engine design soon with HPCR. That should really be good for the resale value on all those 6. 0's at will have been made for what, five years?

If you want to see Ford's next big innovation, just look to Dodge, Ford seems to be playing follow the leader.

Good luck with the new Ford truck, I have driven several '05's and like them very much. I think they have the 6. 0L engine under control now, making amens with International brung a end to the programing issues. Ford has a lot to offer right now, they have the best automatic transmission, best suspension and highest payload and towing capacities. They out tow Dodge by 3000lbs, yes I know Dodge will tow more then it is rated at, but so will the Ford, the difference is the ford will tow over 19,000lbs Legally!! The new trucks also have a much tighter turning radius, that is really noticeable and handy. I love my old Dodge and will keep it till it rust in half, but for a new model, Ford has the truck to beat. Dodge has had plenty of time to build a better truck, they just don't want too. It's ashame because they could easily have a much better product if they would just replace the present automatic with a modern 5 or 6 speed auto, and redesign the interior to offer captains chairs and innovative features like the new Ford. I have read several reports suggesting Dodge will address some of these issues, I hope they are true, and Dodge reacts in a timely manor. Good luck with your new Ford.

The best truck I ever had was a Ford. I put over 300000 miles ona my personal PSD without it ever being in the shop. And I drove medium/light duty tow trucks with PSDs in them for a few years. The ONLY reson I traded it in was to get a quad cab for my daughter. I have a lot of friends with the 7. 3 and 6. 0 motors, and none of them have had major motor issues or "buy backs". I think you got a good price, will be happy with your truck, and not regret your decision. Have fun, those motors can be wicked with the right setup... ... Ryan

BTW The 1993 350 is too new yet to compare, but has the potential to de-throne the ford!

Enjoy that new truck! I have heard and seen the reported problems with the motor... . but it's not like us Dodge owners have nothing to complain about!

If we all drove the same kind of vehicle, we'd look like we're on the streets of Lenningrad :p

Best wishes.

In the words of Dirty Harry...

I, a former PSD owner, feel the wisdom of Dirty Harry is needed here.

"do you feel lucky?"

Thanks Guys

First off I want to thank all of you for your kind comments. I figured I'd get seriously flamed for my post but you guys (correctly) understood that I was being honest and not trying to slam DC.

I do agree that if I could get the Cummins engine in the Ford, that would be the best of both worlds.

I am well aware of the problems with the early 6. 0 PSDs. I've been reading ALL of the major diesel truck forums for several years now. They had some injector, sensor and misc other bugs for the first 1 to 1. 5 years of production. At that point I WAS going to buy a Dodge. But Ford did their homework and it appears that they’ve got all the major bugs worked out. There will always be a few problems here and there but that's true for ALL brands.

The designed lifespan of a new PSD 6. 0 is 300K+ miles. Maybe not quite as durable as the Cummins but I doubt I'll be keeping any (non-commercial use) truck longer than that.

I will certainly keep you all posted about this truck and you will be the first to hear about it if it's not up to snuff.

Oh, I'll be using it to pull a 5th wheel, approx 12,000 lbs.

Yes I'll be keeping the '89 W250 Diesel - can't part with that big-diesel sound!

Regarding my Road Runner, like MC Hammer says "You can't touch this" :-laf

But you can see photos of it in Robert Genat's new book "SIX-PACK, Mopar Street Muscle in the '60s"

He did a feature about how I use it in open road racing. Don Parish (aka Diesel Don, Road Runner Don, RR Don)
