Sylvania White Headlites

Well, I just couldn't ake the fact that my two-cell-AA maglite was brighter than my headlights. I plopped down the 40 clams for the Sylvania bulbs... Holy cow. . what a difference. I should have done this a year ago. Now they are not hearly as bright as a good set of driving lights, but they are a huge improvement.

Now,in all fairness,I should disclose my affiliation with Sylvania. They cut me a great deal on the bulbs at my local PepBoys. Wait a minute, I paid full price. Or there is the fact that my dead dogs breeders' kennel cleaners father delivered boxes to the Sylvania factory.

This is my opinion only.

MTY,

I've also installed the silverstars and they are bright white. I wouldn't be caught dead with 'Yo, G' lights in my truck... May be some 335/35R13 tires with spinnin' gold wheels but not the lights, LOL.

No problem with the lights on my 03, I just run the high beams all the time. . they are so weak no one ever flashes their lights back at me:D

Slightly tinted

Actually the silverstars have a slightly "silver" tint to them. You can tell the difference both if you install one and turn your lights on... you will definitely see it.

Or... you can see a truck / car coming at you with these lights as opposed to standard halogens.

The color is definitely not the stupid blue wanna-be crap those mosquito cars are runnin! Best I can describe it is a slightly silver hugh to the color.

But bottom line IMO is they DEFINITELY are brighter white than stock and worth the upgrade if you only wanna spend <$50 clams on light improvement.

If you want a better light patterns, you will still have to go with the sport light conversion, HIDS, or add aftermarket lights like CATZ or PIAAs. The beam pattern stays the same obviously with the silverstars, but it is much brighter.

Did An Google search on the net for Sylvaina Silver Star Lights and found two places selling them for about 22. 00 IF anyone is interested do the same. :p

Here's the info I was mostly looking for: "SilverStar's color temperature is a white hot 4,000 K, far higher than other halogens on the market and comparable to High Intensity Discharge headlights. "

Color temperature approaching natural light of 5400-5600°K is what I was looking for in a non-traditional halogen lamp. This one is the ticket... . at darn near any price.

They're on-sale here for ~$22/pair.

They don't make 'em for the New Beetle, though. That car has 6 H1 lamps in it... . highs/lows/fogs

I think I saw them at Wally World for $38 a pair. I am heading out for a week of mountain driving next week, going to get some and give them a test. Am I going to have three joints in my arm to install these things.

Whaooooo... ... ... ... ... . you may want to do some reading before you go and spend the money on the "Sylvania Silverstars". Read this article and everything else on this guys site. I learned alot from this site... . but I hate to say, it was after I went out and bought the "Sylvania Silverstars":( . I did notice that they were "whiter", but like he says whiter does not mean better... . I didn't notice that I could see farther or better, just "whiter".. If you want to save about half the money, he says to buy the "Sylvania Xtravisions" in the pink and black package. They were $11 each here and the Silverstars were $22 each... ... yes I was taken by the whiter is better myth:mad:

The problem with the lighting on the Dodge trucks is well documented. I had the same low light problems as the rest of you guy's, but I also had a water condensation problem. The water hurts you in two way, one it disperses the light pattern and two it deteriorates the reflector. Combine this with the bad lamps and it's no wonder Dodge owners are night blind. I fought this problem till I decided to replace the lenses with new ones, and go to a better lamp. I tried the silver stars and they were better, but I ended up with Piaa Extreme white plus. They are worth the extra money, and I have no problems seeing now.

My bad - I read that too quick and thought it was a pair for that price. Go to Pep Boys - like Jeff did... . nevermind this internet mambo-jambo.

I read that article as well - about the HIDs giving you a false sense of security. I've driven cars with the HID lights - they really do light up the road nice..... even if its only psychological. :)

I want real HIDs for the high-tech gadget factor... . other than that I don't really need 'em. But if I ever bought a car that came with them or had them as an option - I'd spring for 'em. When they go bad after the warranty expires - it'll give me something to complain about. :-laf

True, the light does not project farther, but the whiter lite illuminates better. My roomate has the Xtravision in his Ram, and the Silverstars definitly illuminate the same area brighter. We tested the voltage at eh sockets of both trucks... the same.

I don't really care that the stock headlights don't project two hunderd feet... that is what I have my retina-burners on the front for. but the area in the stopping distance in front of the truck is what I expect the factory light to illuminate.

I am at a age where driving at night is starting to be a problem. The contrast is giving me problems. I don't want to see two miles down the road with the truck headlights but I do want the area in front of me to light up. The stock lights are very weak for that. If the Silver Stars improve things that will be great.

Don't know if the lights that blind me are HID or allien technology but I do have a urge to follow them and bash the lights with a ball bat.
