Anyone try these yet? Are they any good? Are they lasting a reasonable time?

I have the Sylvania's that are supposed to be 20% brighter/whiter. . blah blah blah, but to tell you the truth, I really dont see too much improvement if any.

I like mine. They are a lil brighter and whiter than stock. Its not a huge difference but its noticeable, especially with the brights on. Not sure about longevity only had them in about 4 months.

The biggest thing I noticed was the whiter light which really helped make the pavement more visible... not necessarily brighter, but clearer.

I have had mine since November 02 with no problems.

much whiter than stock

I have the S. S. 's in my quad sport headlights and they are much much WHITER than stock. It is very evident because you can look at my OEM fog lights which used to be almost identical in color to my OEM headlight bulbs and now they look brown, so brown I hate to run them.

Love 'em... would buy 'em again...

I wish I could try them out. Nobody around here carries them. I just looked at the PIAAs today and they were $139 CDN. Guess I'll keep looking.

I just bought a pair at Pep Boys for $39.

I put them in 2 days ago. They are definitely brighter than stock.

I haven't really used them on a dark stretch of road yet. I'll let you know what happens then.

Another :) here for the SS.

Like was said above definitely whiter, maybe a little brighter but certainly makes the road easier to see.

Be careful about wasting money on some of the cheaper imitations.

I'd stay away from the blue tinted bulbs also. My buddy had a set that were 80W low beam and 100W high. Yeah they were bright (and illegal) but in the winter the blue tint made wet road, dry road and lightly snow covered road all look blue which makes it hard to tell the difference.

Silverstar Bulbs

I have had mine since they first came out.

I built a small relay control box (Similar to Geno's Brite Box) that draws the power to run the bulbs, direct from the underhood battery distribution, eliminating the voltage drop from the internal truck wiring. In addition, I designed it so both filaments are on, when the Hi- beams are selected. This made the biggest difference, since I don't have Sports package on my truck.

They are MUCH brighter than the OEM bulbs, especially when Hi beams are on. .

I really like them too, but in 60Kmi. , I'm on my 3rd set. Auto Zone warranty covered the first pr, but they won't warranty them anymore. They don't both blow at the same time, first one side blows, then the other. This last pr. has lasted the longest, about 14K now.

how long are your SS's lasting?

Like I said nine months ago on this thread... I love the SS's but what I am dissappointed with is the fact that they seem to last no longer than 12-16 months...

I have replaced 3 out of 4 of mine all within a week of each other... approximately 14 months old. I know others who seem to be getting about the same lifespan. This I find very dissappointing for such an expensive bulb.

silverstars

You can get them at Walmart I have heard, as to the longevity, I just installed them so I am not sure how long they live.

I also had a set on my last truck. I liked them and they APPEARED to be brighter than the stock set. I ended up doing a bit of research and read alot of material. One article that stuck in my mind was an independant test of about 5 different bulbs, including the silverstars and Piaas. They scientifically measured the output of the bulbs and patterns at different distances. To make a long story short, the wavelength or color of the light doesn't make you see any better. In fact some of the whiter lights made it harder to see. Sorta like why fog lights are usually amber. Anyway I have decided that the data made sense to me. There is no "free ride" In order to get better performing headlights, you need to up the wattage. Color makes no useful difference and all the hype about having light "closer to the color of real sunlight" and such is misleading.

Just my opinion.

i have the ss in mine they are the best out there i also changed the fog lights walmart has them for the head lights but i had to go to the auto parts store to get the fog lights

Same with me for longevity. They both went out within 4 days of each other. With the sport headlight conversion, the filiment in the bulbs must have grounded or something and turned on the other bulb in the housing, the 9004. I run 2 seperate wiring harnesses to the batteries with relays and thought I really had a major problem. Replaced the 9007 bulbs and all is good
