My friend just Amsoiled the entire truck four months ago. He has 48,000 miles. As of right now i know his transmission is leaking and it looks like its coming from where it is bolted together in the center. His rear also leaks very little. Not sure about the rest of the truck but i will look at it tomorrow. I don't know if it is due to the synthetic fluid but my truck has 130, no syn. and not one leak ANYWHERE. I HATE LEAKS!

I Amsoiled my engine just after the 20k mark, the earliest the manual suggests and no problems. I did the rest of the stuff about 2 years ago and no problems. I will say, I haven't used it much lately, but when I do it is usually to tow my camper or haul firewood, so it gets a workout. No leaks yet.

If your buddy's truck was a Dodge it came with Synthetic in the differential ,group three synthetic in the trans to start with. I've swapped over at 15k to 100k front to back on a number of different vehicles and never a issue of a leak. Been using full synthetics since about 1991

I've been using Mobil-1 Delvac full sythetic since break-in, now 57k and no problems or leaks. I do change it every 5k or so,but at the rate I'm accumulating miles that isn't too expensive. Since the advent of CJ-4 spec, however, I've been stockpiling CJ-I (both M1 Delvac and Valvoline Premium Blue syn) for the anticipated disappearance of that spec. Plan to run out the M1 first, then continue on with the Valvoline. Hope that doesn't result in any leakage problems.

Early synthetic oils did have some leakage issues; that was corrected by adding seal-swelling additives, just like the petroleum products use. Everything I drive is filled with Amsoil front to back and I have yet to experience any leaks.
