Alright I found out that my filter is crap and my oil is not so good either. I want to switch to Royal purple with the fleetgaurd LF3894 filter. Sound good so far? Now when I do convert over from conventional to synthetic do I need to flush anything? Is there anything I need or should know. I want to do it right the first time. Thanks guys!!

Hi groundpounder
I've got a "93 with 126k on it and have used Amsoil 15W40 Marine full synthetic diesel since my 2nd oil change. I do an analysis at each oil change I also change oil every 6,000 miles. I have never used even 1 quart of oil between changes nor have I had a bad analysis. I also use Fleetguard oil filters. When I switched over I didn't do anything special and have never had any problems. The synthetic will clean everything up by the time you do your second oil change. You may see some oil useage between the first and second change but it should return to normal after the second synthetic change. The filter you are planning to use is the recomended filter to use with synthetic on the 24V engine. Good Luck
Happy Trails

No, stay away from all of those flush chemicals! The only type of flush I'd consider is changing after the first 5k with the new stuff, before increasing your intervals for future changes.

I agree stay away from the flushing idea.

As far as synthetics go, I think the RP has proven itself as a good engine oil. If I remember correctly, I read something about their gear oil not being all that good. There was a thread recently about RP do a search and you'll find it.

Stick with the FG 3894. IMO it is the best filter for our truck. (I am waiting to get some info back from other companies to compare their filters).

Flushing the engine is a good idea.

Royal Purple is not 100% synthetic, but a pretty good blend. Delvac, Delo Synthetic and Amsoil are 100% synthetic.

Hey switca how you doing. I have a Flying J up the street and I read the RP oil container and it said ultra synthetic. Is that still a blend? $15 a gallon. All their Fleetgaurd filters have part# of FF- something not LF like what I need.
