Single Turbo + External Wastegate Question

Thank you WOT for all your efforts on this. We do appreciate all that you have done and perahps someday I can return the favor.

I'm ordered

Another big thanks Bob!

My order is placed. It was good to see this deal come to fruition so quickly. Of course the price point helped, those $1,200 bumper deals are hard to swing. I'm still due for bigger exhaust and air intake. Hopefully DPP will have a good experience with this group buy and be willing to offer some other parts or packages as TDR specials in the future.

Cheers,

Neil

Hi Guys-

I have a request. With this many folks trying the same product at the same time, a unique opportunity exists to get some decent performance data that could be statistically significant.

My request: Please take before and after performance data. If you could, get turbo temp, fuel mileage (towing and empty), and power numbers. Actual dyno numbers would be best, but I'll take fanny dyno numbers.

Any other numbers we should get?

Post the numbers here and we can compile and summarize your findings. Sound interesting?

100 Proof

100 Proof,

We use our truck almost exclusively to tow a 13,500 lb 5th wheel. I bought the TAG specifically because it should show an advantage in high air mass flow conditions (like full throttle up a 6% grade at 70 MPH in 6th gear).

There are three primary factors that I'm going to be monitoring:

1. Fuel mileage - I get about 9. 5 MPG towing on a route from Houston to Fredericksburg in the Texas Hill Country with the DD2's (10-10. 5 MPG with stock injectors). I'll be comparing mileage with the TAG over the same route.

2. Turbo instability - at full throttle conditions such as those I mentioned above, I have a "whoomp whoomp" aerodynamic noise coming from the turbo area. I'm pretty well convinced that it's due to turbulent airflow to the turbo caused by the 180* bend in the inlet tube. If so, the TAG should make a marked difference.

3. Smoke - with the EZ on setting #2 and the DD2 injectors, I can make some pretty good smoke from off-boost conditions. I'll be watching to see if this changes due to the claimed quicker spoolup.

From an engineering perspective, honeycomb flow straighteners have been used in wind tunnels, process piping, etc. for many years, so it's proven technology. The benefit it will provide in our application just depends how turbulent the inlet air is at the mouth of the turbocharger compressor impeller. If it makes a difference, I'll say so. If it doesn't, I'll also say so.

TAG Supply

As some of you already know, we ran out of TAGs this morning, but should have more by the end of the week if all goes well. We will fill your orders as quickly as we can and thank all of you for your patience.

Man, was that fast!

I placed my TAG order just after lunch yesterday and there it was at my gate when I arrived home from work today!

Needless to say, I just had to install that bad boy right away!

Just had to! :D

Kudos to you WOT

I've been sitting on the fence on buying the Tag. Funny how a $34. 00 savings made me fall off.

Oo. :D

Jeepdude...

embarrassingly enough, I decided to wait until the following morning (yesterday now) to try it out. As I had some other pressing things to do, I wasn't afforded the time to take my Ram for a drive.

However, I've driven it since and I can tell you that it does make the turbo spool a little quicker, and with less smoke when you are not solidly "on boost". Noise? I don't think it made any difference in my case... I have an Air Bulldog induction hood breathing through an Amsoil 2-stage foam air filter and the OE air filter housing cover (Air Bulldog fiberglass and custom Line-Xed base... old style! :D ). So, my intake was suficiently quiet already.

It will be awhile before I can track mileage... I was close to having to fill my fuel tank several days ago. And then, since I have a Transfer Flow 54 gallon replacement tank it will be a few weeks or so before I will need to again. :D

Closing the group buy

OK, guys if you are on the list and have not yet called please do so by close of business Friday the 27th. Thanks to all for your support and trying the TAG.

Question... will a 2ng gen TAG fit into a 3rd gen? IE if I buy a TAG for my 99 24V w/hx35 will it fit into my new truck if I get a '05 w/hy35?
