I'm back from a 2400 mile trip to Colorado and thought I'd give my impressions of the TAG unit I installed the week prior to departure.

As others have reported, it seems to quieten the engine down. Noticed this when I first started it up. Smoke is reduced off idle and turbo lag was reduced as well.

I didn't have a opportunity to evaluate the fuel mileage impact since we ran fairly hard going out. My normal mileage on this trip is about 14mpg and on this trip I had a average of about 13. 5 going with a worst of 12. 5 on one tank. On the return trip I had intended to drive at similar speeds over the same stretch of road between Amarillo TX and Oklahoma City and check mileage. Unfortunately, we were fighting a 25 plus mph headwind on this stretch and saw 12mpg. At about dark the wind died as we approached Arkansas and the next tank was 14. 5mpg.

So, while I can't report on fuel mileage yet, the TAG does have positive benefits of quicker spool-up and less smoke. As time allows I'll post mileage changes if any.

Moparguy..... Thanks for the imput. what turbo are you running with the TAG? Did you notice any EGT reduction?

HeberRam, I'm running a home built Hy-Bred HX35/40. It's the stock HX35 with a 8 blade 60cm HX40 pinwheel and compressor housing. HiTech Turbo calls it the stage 2 kit.

Turbo Horseman, I do like the benefits the TAG unit has provided. The improvements I've observed can be compared to a smoothing of rough edges kind of enhancement rather than a major grab you by the neck and set you back in the seat upgrade.

Good luck, Ronnie

The good folks at www.dieselpowerproducts.com who provided a TAG for me to test asked the same question- would I buy one?

My answer then was probably not with the reason being my truck was running perfect without one. It wasn't till after I loaned the TAG out to a friend to test that I realized how much I liked it.

Slight difference when it's in, big difference when it's gone.

Don't expect it to increase power, lower egts or mpgs though it might in some cases.

It will definitely lower turbo noise, make the engine feel smoother, smoke less and spool up faster.

I can now honestly say after not having the TAG in that I'd buy one.

Better yet they should come stock with the truck.

Don't expect any miracles though.

TAG News

The good news is the TAG is finally available for Dodge Cummins trucks 1994-2004 and the install is very simple. The bad news is a limited supply is available and production costs are higher than expected. We will be holding current pricing for TDR members at least for the time being.
