I installed a TAG in my stock '01 6 speed. I didn't notice any affect 4 wheeling through deep snow drifts but when I got on dry highway pavement the truck seemed to have better throttle response in the mid ranges. Computing fuel consumption after an 80 mile run down the Mississippi River highway I got a full 2 MPG increase over my previous best run & that was at 60 mph instead of my usual 55. I'm quite pleased with this simple little unit.

I've got a "see sig" and love mine too. Simple, effective, does a GOOD job and you don't have to run wiring to it :D

It quietened my Scotty II down ALOT (more than half). KSB1B spool seems better and a little quicker. I see #1 LESS boost in my daily driving, and that means better engine efficiency. I can carry on a conversation in the cab now, wife likes that part.

We share driving time towing the 5er. She remarked that "it seems to run easier now with that little round thing". Seems to make a more noticable difference with a load on the CTD.

I like it, she likes it, and that is really all that matters.

Grrrr... ... .

Bob, you're gonna drive me nuts until I buy one of these stupid things to see if all the theory I've been spouting about will hold true. Think I'm gonna hold off till I swap the KS housing for the standard one though... maybe not..... arrrgghhhhh... . driving me crazy! :)

Yep, Bob just about has me reaching for the checkbook. I'm really curious to know if the TAG will get rid of the full throttle/high boost/high airflow "whoomp whoomp" experienced when towing a heavy 5ver up a steep grade. I guess the only way to find out is to buy one.

Rusty

I've had mine for a week now and I like how the throttle response is, no real kick in the pants differents but a lot smother. So far I'm happy with it. I'm still on my first tank with it and will see if there is any milage diff. It has toned down the tubro sound (whine) between shifts almost like I have the muffler on.

Rusty, i am suspicious that the whoomp whoomp comes from the timing under load. I think the EZ doesn't let the ECM back off the timing, and that where the sound comes from.

I am going to wait until i get my turbo decisions made before I order a TAG.

Anyway, that's my theory. No proof, just theory.

Justin,

Mine did it stock, so that (at least to me) pretty well rules out the EZ. It's an aerodynamic noise coming from the passenger side of the engine in the region of the turbocharger. My theory is that it's turbulence at high flow conditions related to the 180* turn the intake air makes between the air filter and turbocharger. I'm just trying to convince myself that it's worth the price of a TAG to prove or disprove my theory to myself.

Rusty

Rusty, the TAG gave me an extra 2MPG with a slightly improved throttle response. At that rate it will take a long time to earn it's purchase price back but it has improved my engine efficency.

New AFE & TAG

Anybody looking at AFE's new intake system? How can we mount the TAG in the new intake hose?

Don't know if I am going to get the new AFE setup anyhow.

We have the aFe tubes on back order and as soon as they come in we will be looking into mounting the TAG using the aFe tube.

Anyone done a before/after dyno run?

I figured out long ago that "seat of the pants" meters are often greatly influenced by the price paid for a product, or what the owner desperately WANTS to feel.

The theory is sound, but documentation takes away most of the guesswork - and leaves the seat of the pants out of it... ;) :)

Gary,

As soon as I get my injectors installed, I plan to dyno my truck. I have the TAG installed, and plan to dyno with and without TAG.

Not sure when someone in Colorado will arrange another dyno day, however there are rumors. Will post results once completed.

I did two back to back dyno runs - 3 pulls each. First without TAG; 2nd with TAG.

Results - From stop to 2500 rpm HP curve w/ TAG kicked in sooner and up to 10 hp more (on a 320 hp set up). This seems to verify reports, and my personal feeling, that turbo spools faster w/ a TAG. From 2500 to 2550 rpm the lines slowly converged. Above 2550 rpm - no gain or loss either way.

Torque curve result was similar with convergence at 2600 rpm and no difference one way or the other above that.

I have also found, during a controlled back to back test on a 2 mile hill (4% grade) that with TAG, can hold a speed with slightly less boost than without (Tested at 60, 70 & 80 mph). Tested empty & at 8800 lbs. Boost difference was greater at gross wt! This tells me the engine operates more efficiently w/ the TAG than without even though there is no more HP. Would there be an even greater difference if towing heavy? I don't tow. . so I can't test it. Anyone have a different interpretation of why less boost to hold set speed?

Rowland

Correction -Even at 80mph, would have been under 2500 rpm (in overdrive) so there would have been more HP. maybe that explains lower boost for a given speed?

Additional note: I have seem no mileage increase.

Sounds interesting more response down low is GOOD - especially in towing - now just gotta figure the "Bang-for-the-buck" ratio and decide if it's worth it...
