From what I've read, spend the $130... . if you don't like it, call them up and tell 'em so and you'll be out whatever the shipping costs were to get it to you and to get it back to them... . 100% refund on cost from what I've been told... .

I'd have one, but I'm gonna be out my compressor housing for a week if I do it, because they have to do some machining on the B1 to make it work... .

RowJ,

Good report. My observations/experiences are similar to yours. However, I haven't dyno'd yet. I'm sure I'll see somewhat the same results.

I've towed (around 5,500 lbs) with my TAG installed, increased fuel economy, and pulled smoother off idle up to 2600 rpm. Haven't tackled any steep grades with something in tow, yet. Unfortunately, I installed a 4" exhaust and fueling box before I got the chance to and won't be able to have data for comparison before the mods.

Either way, I've experienced a quick, smooth acceleration, loaded and unloaded, with less smoke, from idle to 2600 rpm. So, it was worth the cost. Now, have to see how it works with my mods.

They have to machine out the inside of the housing to accept a silencer ring (which is where I believe most the guys w/ B1's are seeing the reduction in noise) and a snap-ring to hold said silencer ring in... . then they have to cut off, from what rweis has told me, about a 1/4" of the front of the compressor housing so that the TAG goes into the mouth of the housing the correct amount to align it properly. They only want like $30 for the machining, and claim that once they receive the housing it'll be sent back out the same day, but from where I am, it'll be a 6 day turn-around and I can't be w/o my pickup that long right now.

Explain yourself.....

A lot of R&D has gone into the design of this, and currently it's the only thing of it's type on the market... sort of a supply and demand thing, kinda like you learned in HS economics... they can charge whatever we'll pay as long as they're the only game out there. Yes, they may be making a bundle on it, but they haven't sold all that many, so I don't think he's gettin' rich off them...

so the dodgezilla should be machined too? the TAG is not a great fit or sound reducer for the dodgezilla.

maybe the housing needs to be machined too? I 've seen no benefit

my TAG fits into the inlet hose and rests close or onto the inlet of the turbo, not inset at all beacause the TAG is lager than the turbo inlet.

TAG

I received the TAG for Christmas, from my wife. I have run it with/without the silencer ring. I have also run with/without the TAG. I have not had the opportunity to tow with it though. Small mileage increase . 5 mpg, my daily driving varies too much & I am happy with 19-21 mpg. EGT, maybe a 25 degree drop. With silencer ring, the wife commented "... it's quieter". Seems to work better with the silencer ring installed.

What I have noticed the most is the quicker spool up through all the gears, from off the line to passing on the hwy.

Hats off to Dave (Diesel Power Products) for coming up with this cool piece of hardware.

The TAG will stay on my truck w/silencer ring.

There is a 30 day return for all you skeptics. :D

I am a satisfied customer.

Machining for TAG with B1

The machining we do for the B1 is to first shorten the air inlet horn by about 1/4", then increase the opening of the housing to accept a silencer ring and snap ring. Then the TAG is installed in the normal fashion. This is the same thing that needs to be done for the Hx-40 and other after market turbos to allow correct installation of the TAG.

B-1 TAG

Snowracer69 - Mine was, I guess, the prototype for B-1's. I have not done machining or silencer ring and it is quieter than without. Don't believe Bob Weis has sent his housing in either, but may be wrong. He got his about the same time.

Mine isn't as pretty but works - it just slides into throat of intake, has kind of a flang to hold it from slipping into turbo. Fits flush with end of turbo air intake. Held in by hard plastic intake hose of K&N FIPK2 but could easily tap a small screw into each side to hold it from "barking backwards or rotating. My set up has had neither problem - I don't think you can bark a B-1 with an auto. I can't.

Dave (Carnut57)- was my understanding I'm OK as is and it's not necessary to do the major mod to intake. Did I miss something? Have you a better B-1 setup?

Mine is shortened, & silencer ring. Dave Meehan sent me the modified turbo inlet first and I sent him mine unmoded in return.

The TAG fits into the OEM air hose at the turbo end in a recess groove that is part of the OEM air hose. Then I put the OEM air hose on and made sure I put it on far enough that the TAG seated into the turbo intake all the way. The turbo inlet was shortened about 1/4" so the TAG would snuggly just fit the ID.

I measured the distance from the end of the OEM air hose to where the TAG was captured in the OEM air hose recess. I marked the turbo inlet housing that distance and then made sure the OEM air hose was that far onto the turbo inlet. as the TAG approached the inlet frame I felt it touch and then I wiggled it as it slid into the ID of the inlet snuggly and seated up against the lip of the turbo inlet.

Sure quieted down the HX40 sound via the Scotty II. Oo.

I hear you can remove it & turn it around in the hose ... even quieter?

edit: Turned it around in the hose. Now the hose fits better on the 40. It might be quieter.

The TAG works well for what it is and what it's intended to do. It's not going to be that 200 HP upgrade for $ 129. 00, it's more of an upgrade to improve efficiency... which it does.

Think about it, how many upgrades are out there for our trucks that are under $ 200. 00? I can think of two.

It's funny how some of us are... we'll want to see dyno results for a $ 129. 00 item but gladly spend more on other items.

If there is a 30 day money back guarantee, how could you go wrong?

I have a stock 02 HO 6 spd w/ 3. 55 gears and I noticed a difference, nothing huge, but a difference. My truck has better throttle response and I use less throttle to do what I did before the install. Not very scientific, but not wishful thinking either, and would certainly fit into Gary's seat of the pants line of thought.

Some have said they notice the difference most when they take it out and loan it to a friend.

As far as upgrades go, I think it's a very cost-effective upgrade.

My 2 cents worth.

(Gary, PM me if you have any questions, be glad to answer any questions you have)

I don;t want to sound dumb... but does any machining need to be done for stock turbos? I probably read over that area and missed it.....

XJ

No machining required on 2nd Generation-thru 2002 with stock turbo. Don't know about 04's. Check with Dave at Dieselpowerproducts.com.

tag is in

I put he tag in my truck today. 2002 with edge EZ PDR HX 35 4 inch exaust auto transmission. The turbo seems to spool up faster and the whine is alot quieter dont know if milege is better yet
