2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Tailgate Assist

Haven't been on here for a while but, I have a question I'd like to ask. I recently bought a '15 Ram Ecodiesel, and was wondering if there is a torsion bar assist on the tailgate. The reason I ask is because I see a rod, (about 3/8") running from one side to the other thru the bottom of the taigate. On the passenger side there is aa bolt that appears the secure the rod parhaps after adjusting tension. Anybody have a clue what this is?

I added a torsion bar to my 03 and can close the tailgate with 2 fingers. Is yours that easy? If it is then there must be some kind of assist built in. David

Just ordered a DEE ZEE tailgate assist. Quite a few over on The Ecodiesel site have said they put one on, and really like it. Thanks.

Found out today that this is a "counter balance rod". There is a part number for it at the dealers. Problem is that there's no picture nor explanation for it. Parts guy and service tech could find no information anywhere for it. Came home and took my tailgate off and confirmined that it is what it is, but there is no adjusting it. You'd think truck builders would figure something out after all these years. The after market is there, but no truck manufacturers. The have tailgate lifts on most all the SUV's now, but not for trucks. Go figure!
