The quick answer is I have one; the longer answer is I'll have to do some research to remember where I got it. Installation was a snap, especially since I already had the power lock wires back there for the power lock on my A. R. E. cap.

Just don't lose a turned on (hot!) sure-fire flashlight in the lower part of the tailgate when you close it:{ I did eventually fish it out, but what a PITA

Electric tailgate lock

If i could find this, i would, but i posted a thread on this a while back. Luckily, another TDR member knew the right wires, as the folks i bought from were clueless. However, there price was first rate, and install was very easy, especially after i found the wiring code!

I initially posted a vender and phone number- hope that helps!

How about this one .

Haven't tried it myself, but I seem to recall seeing this mentioned on another board as working pretty well.

Ties in to the electric door locks, so the tailgate locks when the doors do.

I bought the POP&LOCK power tailgate lock. I can't find the right wires to tap into. I have removed the driver side kick panel, but dont see any wires of the right color.

Does anybody know the color of the two wires I need to tap.

I dont want to screw anything up by taping wrong wires.

i bought this one. works great and price is as low as it gets.

dont worry that it says for 1500's. it works on all models

I bought a POWER tailgate lock. Locks and unlocks with the power door locks. Problem is, I cant find the wright wires to tap into. I kind of wish now I had bought that one. Much simpler to install

MGONSKE- what ARE do you have? I wish someone had tried to sell me power locks when I bought mine. DO you know if they can be added?

I have the ARE LSII. It locks, but I think if someone pulled hard enough on the tailgate, they MIGHT be able to get it open. I would feel better with the tailgate also locked

I bought the widely available power tailgate for my 04 truck, it is easier to install than the 2nd generation by far, since the whole inside of the tailgate is easy to access. But the wiring guide supplied was wrong, so I called the manufacturer to get it right. The lock was only $59 with no tax or shipping (as I got other stuff). I had a pop in place one for my 2nd gen truck but never used it, it was too hard to place. Even the ones with keys are a pain. So electric works for me!

RRoton,

2004 shop manual show driver side lock/unlock motor as 18 gauge LG (light green) and 18 gauge TN/LG (tan/light green). These wires go to a 16 pin connectors (door one side/ body mating side).

I have the Z-series. The power lock is added by the dealer--although I ordered it when I ordered the top, I was in a hurry when I first picked it up, and went back later to have the dealer install the power lock.

Pop n Lock

I also got the Pop n Lock. The instructions say tap Tan/pink and Tan/orange.

When I called them they told me on the 2004 it was the light green and tan/light green (as noted above).

The Tan/pink and Tan/orange are probably correct on the 2003's.

Why they change wire colors between 2003 and 2004 is beyond me...
