Wow this old thread! I still have no plate in my pump! I'm thinking about putting one back in though becase I've ripped the center out of one clutch and killed a set of U joints. It looks like my power level is killing my drive line and I am having dicipline problems with my right foot:D

I know of 3 trucks from around here that are plate less and Ive also ran without one before and the only thing I really can tell is it gives you poor fuel mileage.

Just took a customers truck, and went from a plate full forward, and 1600*EGT, to a 10 plate 1/8" forwards from the rearest position, and now it's Good Power, and 1150-1250 EGT.

He's going to report his mileage back to me soon as he gets back.

Poor fuel milage is not the plate's fault it is your foo'ts fault. Plate or no plate doesn't affect the govenor or fueling at all until you get twards the upperer end of the throttle where the arm would contact the plate. All the plate really is is a piece of wood under the acclerator pedal. How thick do you want your piece of wood? Are you capable of waching boost and the pyrometer? Lots of people aren't so the plate protects the engine from their foot.

Hey Jim F,

Just wondering what are your EGT like? Just wondering cuz mine are very hi and I was thinking about moving plate back to stock position... . Rick

It will be a PDR 40 on top and I don't know on the bottom yet but it will be big, I know of several that I like... ... lets say along the lines of a HT4B, I've got the potential just needs some cooler air.
