That is the perfect size tire, how is the ride on the road, roadnoise, mileage change? How is treadwear? Do you have any type of lift kit?

I know you were talking about another size tire, but look over my info about tires.

I have the stock Michelin LTX A/S tires, LT 265/70 R70, "E rated" 30" dia.

I have 127,500 miles on the tires, still 1/16" of rubber to wear bars left.

I allways rotate every 7,500 miles, keep the PSI at 45 / 45 and never have had a flat or had the need to balance the tries from the factory balance.

I do increase the PSI to 50 / 65 when carring heavy loads.

I have often thought about converting to the 19. 5 rims and use 33" dia. skinny tires in the "F rating" but what I have been told is the increase rotational weight kills the MPG's and the F and G ratings make the drive rougher.

Now that diesel got up over 5. 00 a gallon last year, and will go up soon just because of pollitics and Big Enviro, the last thing I want is a MPG killer: heavy tires, wide tires, tires that stick out beyond the body, lifted truck.

In fact I am so impresed with these Michelin LTX A/S tires, I bought a set of used tires from another Dodge guy, he install some big off-road tires on his truck. The tires were made in 06, so I have till 2011 for the recommended five year safety margin DOT date to expire. I put no more than 21,250 miles in a year on the truck, so I figure I will get 42K on them by 2011. The tread life on these used tires are 50% gone.

PWKNAPP you said

I like my 305/85/16's on the dually!! Just at 37" tall and run just right with the 4. 10's.

what brand of tires are those

Yep, that's them. They sure were cheaper a couple of years ago when I picked them up. Another option is Denman Coyote's. Same size with a highway/snow/AT tread. Heard good news about mileage from the Coyote's also. Mudders are great offroad but you can watch 'em wear going down the highway.

I just replaced my 325/60/18 load 'C' Toyo Open Country AT's with 285/75/18 load 'E' Toyo Open Country AT's.

What a huge difference, truck seems way more stable, corners better, steers quite a bit better, not always grabbing all the ruts. 1800 rpm@70 mph. These tires are just shy of 35", and I believe they look great.

Lookin GREAT!!!

I did not realize that the 285/75/17 were E rated. . thought they were available only in D rating.

Do you know if the MT in the same size are also E rated??

Where'dya get them??

The MT's in that size are "E"s but for some reason the load rated is down considerably from the AT's? I've ridden in an '07 of a friend's equipped w/Toyo 285-75-17 MT's. Very quiet for a mud tire and they seemed plenty sturdy for my rig w/camper.

That's another option for tires. "E" rated, near 35" tall and not so wide as the others. Which wheels are you using?

Anybody have any numbers on load capacity and sizes for the 285/75/17 Toyo AT vs MT?? TIA

The Toyo 285-75 OC AT is rated for 3970lbs at 80 PSI. The OC MT is rated for 3195lbs at 80PSI. I have the AT's and they are a decent tire, just tread burns out a little quick. I thought I would be happy to get to 40k, but these will be pretty scary at the 40K mark. Scotty

I currently have about 10K miles on my Nitto DurraGrappler 285/75-17E tires. For me, they helped a little for interstate MPGs, but hurt a little for my daily commute. (as compared to the stock Michelin 265/70-17E) I have not noticed any treadwear yet, but the rolling resistance is less now than when they were new.

Thanks Scotty. . that's a pretty big difference; I wonder if it has something to do with the amount of tread contact on the pavement in the AT (more tread contact) and MT (less contact). Still, I am sure they are both a great tire. If you stay on pavement and do mostly highway miles, I am pretty sure that the AT2's will do you better then they did me.

Check out the 295/70R17 in the OC MT. It also has a 3970LB load, and is about the same size as the 285/75. I don't get why they dropped the load rating on the MT version of the 285/75. Hard tellin. I liked having the cushion of the extra load rating, but have not pulled any weight as of yet that needed the extra, even with my 5th wheel fully loaded I am still below my tires ratings, stock. The wheels I am using are in my sig, same wheels I had the 325/60/18's on. They have a 5 1/2" backspacing which is sufficient, but 6" would be better.

I wish I would have went with a narrower tire to begin with, it is so nice not spraying road grime all over my door handles, mirrors, and the entire side of my truck. Plus, the positive improvement in road manners, I guess as I get older, those "things" that did not bother me before, now seem to matter.

Scotty, is there a website that I can compare the differnt specs on different size Toyo tires. I have been to Toyo's site, but have not been able to find much specific info. Thanks. seafish

Hankook Dynapro ATM RF10

Just bought a set of the Dynapro ATM RF10 in 285x17x70 load E range "S" rated tire. I am very happy with them, ride nice, very low noise. As for road conditions, wet or dry pavement rated Excellent! Haven't had a chance to try them in the mud or snow yet but according to the reviews they performed very well. Only issue I have is they "say" they are Korean company and you would think made in Korea but after I got them saw the stamp on the side "made in China" WTF!!!! Does every company make their products in China now? My buddy said last batch of trailer tires he got from Goodyear had "made in China" on the side also.
