I am not amused by the nonsense posts, and try to ignore them, but often you really cannot tell whether it is dumb nonsense untill you click on it. When you have a limited amount of time to spend on the site, it is annoying to have some of it wasted by junk postings.

I tried to reply on this thread this AM while at Brandon's in Motown. . I couldn't get it to take so here goes...

I worked in the Corporate Retail field until February and have had to be PC for most of those years [35]. . anyone who knows me knows that is not my nature and it helped me make a decision that when I did retire I would never be that way again... I would be respectful as taught by my Grandparents however I would call it as I saw it and not gloss over and be quiet when I needed to speak out.

Mr Whitmore your "humor" needs to go away and you grow up and become a member that at the very least is an asset not the PIA that your now being. your brand of "humor" has worn out it's welcome and is no longer appreciated by the members. .

Kinda proves the point here don't he?

Hey Whitmore, just out of curiosity how old are you?

49 here.

I belong to Jeeps Unlimited. 24,780 website members. Site was going downhill. A lot of flaming, moderators unable to keep control of threads, padding of post counts, etc. Site was bought out and taken over. Got rid of troublemakers with better rules, moderators had more control, and eliminated post count. They found out there was no reason to have a post count. Now, lot less useless threads, better information posted, a little less bickering. Site has really improved. Maybe TDR could learn a little from this example.

According to his profile, he is 42. Reason I posted this is because I don't know when he will return, and I wanted this question answered. Whitmore, sorry if this offends. :(

There is an IGNORE feature for obnoxious folks. Too bad that the only one I've chosen to ignore got suspended.

If you've got a group of more than about 10 folks 2 of them WILL be Arses. No offense, just a fact.

carry on.

Dont you quys think it would be better if you had a problem with

with their posts to email the moderators or email them personally instead of bashing them on the forums... ... . shhheeehhhh:rolleyes:

Flame on dudes

This is the most fun I have had in a while, looks like alot of folks that dont like the corney posts sure do pull them up and some even reply  I love this site it gets better every day :D

With thousands of members here, that means we have a huge amount of knowledge here covering just about everything, not just our trucks which bring us all together. This is what I would like to see the "other" forum used for and I think it was a good idea when someone sugested another forum for the childish stuff. Most people like me have questions about something other than our Dodges, and it would be great to ask them here, where we "know" the person that may answer our questions, something we will not get by going to a strange board where we know nobody. Myself and I'm sure a lot of other members never go to the other forum because of the nonsense there, so we lose that function to help somebody that may need advise. I think it would be great to have a new forum, and if it could be kept from the new post section and the archives, that may solve the problems.

(reposted from another thread, cuz I think it's appropriate!)

Seems to me, a key issue not fully understood or discussed, is the fact there is a BIIIIG difference between a "other" category intended for non-diesel subjects such as your favorite baseball team, where you like to go for vacation and such - and a freer, potentially offensive "anything goes" forum that too often degenerates into the sorta stuff we really wouldn't want our other family members to see.

I have no problem with an "other" forum that keeps subject material clean and above board - representing the members of this board and it's operators in a light of decency and responsibility...

ON the other hand, if members here - and the board administrator ultimately decide that it is to become "anything goes" - well, I'm sure *I* can find LOTS of off-color stuff to "amuse" the masses...

Is that what most of us REALLY want? It certainly seems to be what a FEW want!

AND, for what it's worth, MOST comments in these recent threads are merely OPINIONS from members, because the Administrator ASKED us for those opinions to be used as a tool to guide board operation and policy! Just because some of us disaggree with others on this relatively minor issue DOESN'T mean we are suddenly enemies or "bad" people - we simply have different opinions! No more, no less...

I would vote on getting rid of the post count (if the software allows) like someone else said. I personally couldn't care less how many posts a user makes... other than it potentially being used to differentiate between an "old timer" and a "newbie" (to the board) I can't see of any practical reason for having it. . . other than it makes some (very few) people post gibberish just to see their post count go up.

As always, Just My Humble Opinion.

Post counts? Post whoring? I like post counts. I'm trying to get to a thousand so I can get my free coffee maker. C'mon guys, give a guy a break. Oo.

Is there a point where some of us may be taking ourselves too seriously? I'm beginning to understand why we may need the V-chip in our TV's. It's real simple folks... . If you don't like it, don't read it. That's why we have an 'Other' forum. This is all self-evident. Maybe I am becoming an anachronism.

Since we're throwing opinions around, I'll toss one in as well.

The Other forum is, as stated, for discussing that which has nothing to do with TDR, Dodge, Cummins and diesels.

If the TDR website becomes 'seriodeal withus only', then it will quickly gain a reputation for being stuffy, stodgy and lose some portion of its draw as a 'club'.

On the other hand, too much inanity detracts from the quality of the site.

If we cannot police ourselves, if we cannot find a fair balance between serious posts and jocular posts, then TDR administration will surely implement new rules defining that balance.

Gary (Willyslover) is mostly correct. We want most threads and posts to be informative and educational. But, remembering that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, we do need a certain level of comic relief, of joculariy, of levity.

But that doesn't mean we should all try to be comedians, because we're not all funny. However, learning what it takes to make people laugh is educational, just as is learning what *doesn't* make people laugh.

Beating us over the head won't make us laugh. Actually, considering the general membership, I'd be willing to bet subtle humor in small quantities probably would be appreciated. Sarcasm, e. g. , "Andrew sure is a master of sarcasm. "; double-entendre, e. g, this is a hard one to handle (said the girl to the sailor); teasing, e. g. , I wonder if Fireman Dave used that Jalapeno PB I sent him. Any more examples and I'll be beating us over the head.

As others have pointed out, we shouldn't take ourselves too seriously. But we also need to remember that this site is mostly about serious topics, so we need to learn the proper balance between serious and humorous responses.

Apologies to Andrew and Dave for using them in my examples. I could've used Doc Tinker in the sarcasm example, but then it wouldn't be sarcastic. And I could've used any of the chat FREAKs in the PB example, but figured Dave needed a jab today.

And if you've made it *this* far in this long-winded, babbling post without dozing off, I congratulate you!

Agreed. . Wheres the problem? As long as its not crude, or offensive. . DONT READ IT. . Find something else to read... Big deal. . If you think its crude and slipped past the moderators, Flame the ba$tard. . Let him know you dont want it, but why restrict the rest of us. .

Its called being Self-policing. . The moderator cant catch everything. .

What is this Kindergarden?

I like the "Other" forum. Many times, it's the place I go first.

I'm all for getting rid of the post count and not adding new posts on the other forum to the "new posts", etc.

Doc, where are you?

Hate to disappoint you, John, but I'm still waiting for mine. :(
