Laptop in truck question

Good luck Lt Hohn. I was originally called up for 30 days which immediately changed to 365 days. Now I've been extended an additional six months and am thinking it will be September before I go home for good. I think of my compatriots daily. I hope we all make it home safe. Semper Paratus.

Mom

Just got a phone call. Mom's in the ICU with a 'mild' heart attack and congestive heart failure. On top of her other diagnoses and age, she's sick, but stable. They expect her out in a few days. I get to run up and down the road to feed the cat. In fact, I'd better feed the cat before I go to the hospital to see her. If you want to meet 'she who must be obeyed,' meet my Mom. And you'll smile when you obey, too!

Cool :)

With a few days over 13 months to go here in Germany, it makes me and the others in uniform proud when we get support from home. I did a tour in Kuwait in the summer of 2001, and I know I will be going back this summer again. I don't know where yet, but where ever it is, 130+ heat feels the same and the sand is still brown.

Once again, thanks for your support.

Ben

PS I like that heat compared to the rain and cold here. :-laf

The Soldier

Hi all,

My Dad served in the Army with the 1st Air Cav in Vietnam and just retired from 30 years as a policeman. My brother is a Firefighter/Paramedic in my hometown. I have learned to respect and appreciate the people who put there lives on the line to keep us free and safe. My heartfelt prayers and thanks go out to you all.

I got this in an Email today and thought it would be well placed on this thread, I couldn't help but get a little choked up... .....

The soldier.....

The following passage is from a sermon by John Hagee:

I want you to close your eyes and picture in your mind the soldier at

Valley

Forge, as he holds his musket in his bloody hands. He stands barefoot

in the snow, starved from lack of food, wounded from months of battle and

emotionally scarred from the eternity away from his family surrounded

by nothing but death and carnage of war. He stands though, with fire in

his eyes and victory on his breath. He looks at us now in anger and disgust

and tells us this...

I gave you a birthright of freedom born in the Constitution and now

your children graduate too illiterate to read it.

I fought in the snow barefoot to give you the freedom to vote and you

stay at home because it rains.

I left my family destitute to give you the freedom of speech and you

remain silent on critical issues, because it might be bad for business.

I orphaned my children to give you a government to serve you and it has

stolen democracy from the people.

It's the soldier not the reporter who gives you the freedom of the

press.

It's the soldier not the poet who gives you the freedom of speech.

It's the soldier not the campus organizer who allows you to

demonstrate.

It's the soldier who salutes the flag, serves the flag, whose coffin is

draped with the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag!!!

"Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they

protect us.

Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for

us in our time of need. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

Amen. "

Prayer Wheel:

When you receive this, please stop for a moment and say a prayer for

our U. S. ground troops in Afghanistan, AND all over this world. There is

nothing attached... . This can be very powerful... . Just send this to all the

people in your address book. Do not stop the wheel, please... . Of all the

gifts you could give a US Soldier, Prayer is the very best one.....

Many well stated posts

I joined the Navy, but ended up with the Marines, Alpha Co, 1st?, 1st Regiment, 1st Marine Division.

I responded to "doc" and "corpsman up!" but was fortunate the war was winding down when I served my tour. But I'm not here to write about me.

I want to give a heart felt thanks all those who have served, are serving and will serve both in and out of uniform for the protection of our nation. My prayers are with you.

Please remember those POW/MIA's who have not returned home.

My prayers go out to all that are serving... .

My family supported me when I was activated for Desert Storm, and their prayers go out to those serving now as well.

Good Luck and GOD BLESS.

Come back in one piece.

And most of all, THANK YOU!!

Another member on his way

Just talked to Kernel on the phone. He is on two hour standby to board a plane to the land of ragheads and sand. Although it may be some time before he has access to the internet I suggest flooding his, and other members, PM box with good messages.

I am very proud of our troops and very grateful for their courage and honor... I got this e-mail today from a friend who is a retired Marine pilot, enjoy, Marty...

just when my spirits are getting down I read things like this and it makes me proud of being a Marine again... .

CNN live interview with Martin Savidge on Sunday, 30 March 2003:

Martin Savidge of CNN, embedded with the 1st Marine battalion, 1st Marine Division, was talking with 4 young Marines near his foxhole this morning live on CNN. He had been telling the story of how well the Marines had been looking out for and taking care of him since the war started. He went on to tell about the many hardships the Marines had endured since the war began and how they all look after one another.

He turned to the four and said he had cleared it with their commanders and they could use his video phone to call home. None of these Marines had been able to talk with their families for many weeks. The 19 year old Marine next to him asked Martin if he would allow his platoon sergeant to use his call to call his pregnant wife back home whom he had not been able to talk to in over a month. A stunned Savidge, who was visibly moved by the request, nodded his head - yes. The young Marine ran off to get the sergeant.

Savidge recovered after a few seconds and turned back to the three young Marines still sitting with him. He asked which one of them would like to call home first? The Marine closest to him responded with out a moments hesitation, "Sir, if is all the same to you we would like to call the parents of a buddy of ours. Lance Cpl Brian Buesing of Cedar Key, Florida, who was killed on the 23rd of March near Nasiriya. We would like to see how his folks are doing and let them know their son died bravely. "

At that Martin Savidge totally broke down and was unable to speak. All he could get out before signing off was, "Where do they get young men like this?"

everyone here thanks you for your support

Hello from the desert. I am a Navy Corpsman serving with the Marines. It does my heart good to see the people back home saying the thing you are saying. I have been in the Navy for 12 years (active duty) now and this is the 4th conflict that I have been in. Look out for our families back home and we will be home soon.
