My original LP is down to 8 psi at idle, with 70k on the clock.

I called the local dealer and told the service writer I had a problem and wanted to get it fixed under warranty before a banzai run to Kaliphornyah. Appointment made

Now I've had time to think about it, maybe I should just FASS II it and forget the warranty stuff. or

Try and get it R&Red under warranty and add a pusher to the "new" pump, IF they replace it under warranty.

I want to replace it before the VP gets hurt.

oh my, what to do?

YA know, it might be interesting, if not productive, to assemble EVERY LP failure thread/post available on this board, and Email them to DC - waddaya think?

how about getting a 20,000 plus pitition . have robert patton hand deliver it to the big guy at d/c and ask what are you going to do about this?

I wonder what the customer satisfaction rating would be if DC just took care of this one problem, the truck (at least mine, for me) would be almost perfect!

I think I just answered my own question: Screw DCs warranty, FASS II and forget about it.....

Ahhh, but would that void the warranty for a VP-44 failure?

He would probably say they took care of it by going to the comon rail system. Chryslers way of getting you to upgrade.

"you mean like when they downgraded to the VP44?"

I can't let comments like that slide without a challenge/clarification! ;)

As far as *I* am concerned, the only fault with DC or Bosch in providing the VP-44 in our trucks was their FAILURE to verify that the fuel quality in OUR diesel fuel was adequate for a pump most commonly used in EUROPEAN vehicles which use a more regulated and quality controlled fuel than usually available here!

End result has been far too many failures that are fuel quality related, in a pump that is reportedly operating quite satisfactorilly in other European applications.

It AIN'T the PUMPS fault, for the most part, it's our crummy USA FUEL quality!

Having come from a VE fixed-tuned mechanical injection pump to the VP-44 is like a dream in terms of instant, on-the-fly adaptation to changing loads and driving conditions. The ability to INSTANTLY change the fuel injection timing and volume to suit driving conditions is one earlier owners woulda KILLED for! ;)

SO, I have my own VP-44, 35,000 totally trouble-free miles on it and my lift pump, even in towing with the Edge Comp - pierced wire and all! NO WAY would *I* want to go back to a VE style pump - but I *do* use fuel additives to hopefully make up for what the refiners fail to provide, and have added fuel filtration that takes contaminents down WELL into the SUB-micron range! ;) :D
