Re: Does this get in the way of changing the oil filter?

The mounting kit by itself is $150. 00. If you want more info on everything else, I think we should take this to private email so we don't bend any rules here. -- email address removed --

The build sheet info doesn't tell me anything. Just take a look at your alternator and see if it says ND, Nippon, Nippondenso (or something similar) or Bosch on the backside.

Mark... soooooo how will your new babies affect the mounting of the OBA system

if you do not have room for both send the system here and I promise I'll hook it up to a working condition :p

the OBA kit does not affect the oil filter... . My twin turbos do though.

I relocated the filter to make changes easier. one thing to watch out for with remote filters is the pulse from the oil pump. it's louder than my exhaust:mad:. I gotta fix it.

the twins are gonna make the OBA difficult at best, but I think they'll both fit. I'm not gonna try until I'm positive the twins are debugged. removing the twins with thw OBA in place would be a major PITA;)

later,

Mark

The pulleys on these alternators are not a press fit. When you tighten the pulley nut, the back of the pulley presses against the front bearing and holds the pulley in place.

The unthreaded portion of the Bosch shaft is pretty small, meaning there isn't a whole lot of "meat" to hold the pulley in place and keep it from wobbling. I think that measurement was . 190. I didn't feel too comphy making an 8 groove serpentine pulley with a V-groove on the front. I felt like it might be too much leverage on the pulley/shaft and cause problems which neither of us need. The ND alternators have more meat to hold the pulley and leverage has never been a problem.

I might still experiment with the Bosch a little more and see if I'm wrong in my assumption. There might be enough unused thread on that shaft to allow a thicker hub on the pulley and still get the nut on correctly. Don't know for sure. Until then, anyone with a 24V and Bosch alt can't use the kit unless they buy a ND alternator. Other than the pulley/shaft differences, they look identical and should interchange without any problems.

Brad I thank you for you quick reply and appreciate your help I think I would really like to see if something can be done with the bosch alternators since we have two 24 valvers that came with em.

Thanks Seth

Well, I'll look into it but understand that it's not going to be a high priorety at the moment. Even if I can get the Bosch to work ok, I don't know if it's worth the trouble to produce yet another pulley just for the Bosch. Like you said, there are only two of you needing it at the moment. :)

I appreciate this brad I'm only thinking that for now even thought I would really like to add an OBA system I am not ready to spend the money to replace the alternators on two of the trucks we have as of right now since they are only one year old. Are you considering building brackets to fit the 12 valvers by any chance? I also have a first gen dually that I would be interested in doing the same with if the brackets ever become available. Thanks and we all appreciate the effort and work that goes into your products. Seth

onboard air

Has anyone out there tried making a direct drive PTO onboard air system? It would get dirty, but would make a lot more room being mounted on the side of a manual, and would take much less plumbing to a frame-mounted air tank. I know that there are electric air pumps, but have not seen any PTO driven ones.

Brad now has a kit for the 24V with the Bosch alternator:D I guess he had enough of me hounding him with emails and phone calls. I need the air to run the VGT and after having the truck down for a week, due to an electric compressor failure:eek: and waiting on warranty parts. I'd had enough, of driving the Jeep that is:mad:. I started my one man campaign to have Brad make a pulley for the Bosch alternator equipped trucks. The kit # is KE-3000-B. Lets show are support to Brad for the hard work he has done for us and order those kits. http://www.onboardair.com/

Brad, Thanks so much. :)
