3.54 vs 4.10 and towing

I just bought a Tekonsha Voyager brake controller. I am not sure how to wire it up to my 6-pin connector in the bed of my truck for my gooseneck trailer... ... So far I have tapped into the harnes running back to my bumper hitch for the blinkers and ran the wires up to the bed for the 6-pin connector..... not sure what to do next... ... ...

Since you have a harness at the bumper hitch, I assume that you have the tow package. If so, their should be a four conductor recepticle under the dash for the brake controller. The recepticle requires a plug with four pigtails to attach the controller to the harness.

Do you have the recepticle under the dash?

I did find it...it was blue......

I found a blue 4 pin connector under the dash... . that is the one... . correct? But on the six pin connector for the bed of the truck, do i just tap off the wiring for for the bumper hitch... ... ? If so has anyone wired one of these before by tapping off the bumper hitch wiring?

Jason

The brake controller will hook up to the recepticle under the dash. You will need to obtain the matching plug with pigtails from a trailer supply store or your Dodge dealer.

CAUTION: The wire colors of the pigtails on the connector from Dodge (and perhaps from a trailer supply dealer) DO NOT match the colors on the controller from Tekonsha. You need to hook up the wires by function-not by color.

The recepticle at the back of the truck for year 2000 is actually a seven-pin recepticle. The center connection is backup lights. Maybe your 1999 is the same?

I have never rewired for a 5th wheel. Wiring has been discussed here before however. Perhaps the search feature will help. Or maybe someone else will jump in. I seem to recall some were tapping wires in the harness and others were making an extension to go from the existing recepticle at the bumper into the bed.

Here are a few that I found searching the Towing and Hauling forum for the word "wiring":

Good luck.

My 99 came with the brake controller pig tail in the glove box. Plug it into the connector under the dash and wire it to the controller.

You dont need a plug receptical in the bed. Run the 5er cord to your bumper recptical and your reay to roll. I have a louver tail gate ,so I just lift the gate up and run the cord between the end gate and bed which holds the cord snug to the bed.

Connector is a seven pin you can get a harness from canping whorld for nine dollars and one dollar shiping as for the wire plug in at rear I removed the trailer hitch from my truck as the bumper is rated at 5000 lbs with a ball hitch mounted for a boat or small trailer. I extended and went up through the fender well and mounted the plug in at the side of the bed up about five "on left side . Like some one posted if you leave hitch in place you can use as is if looped or held in place in some way . I wired mine one wire at a time red to red white to white ect no brainer there , Keep the card that came with controler in your bill fold you will at some time need it to adjust the controler. Ps the center pin is for back up lights trailers do not have them . Lol Ron in Louisville KY:confused:    :D
