Roadless effort..NEED HELP

I use Valerian Root to help me sleep when I'm tense. Warm milk with vanilla helps too.

See the Ear Candle thread for another remedy.

I've heard the Catnip is an excellent mosquito repellent.

home remedies

Got this one from my Hungarian Grandmother. Infected cuts or other wounds: apply a poltice of whole milk and white bread, and in short time, the infection is gone. Cover with a bandage to keep out "stuff".

Ron

PS: does not apply to amputations, doc.

When I was a young, they used to use kerosene on a wound to kill the germs, also would give us a teaspoon full of sugar with kerosene on it for the "croup". Wonder we didn't get pneumonia from that mess. :(

Had a small glass full of whiskey, honey and kerosene a couple winters ago. Not too sure how much it helped, but Lord was it nasty.

Used to mix hot water with lemon and honey with a touch of whiskey in the winter to get rid of a cold. Hydrogen peroxide in the ear occassionally to keep ear wax build-up under control.

Here's my cold receipe: 5 parts rum, 1 part lime juice, 1 part honey. Heat it up and drink. If you still feel bad, have another. If you feel up to it, throw in a cinnamon stick:eek:

Home remedy

While on a trip recently, we were eating at a seaside bar and grill that had all the doors to an outside deck and patio open and hanging in each doorway, at the top corner of the jamb, was a Zip-Lok bag of clear water tied with a string. When asked about the bags, we were told it was to keep out the flies. It was then that we noticed that indeed, there were no flies in the place. The waiter said he had heard of this from someone who had worked there for just a few weeks and moved on. We have tried it at home and it appears to work.

Dog repellent

Learned this one from my grandpa, a 4" paintbrush loaded with turpentine wiped across a stray dogs behind (make sure you get it in the "exhaust area" real good) will keep the dog off your property for the rest of it's life. He said it takes about thirty seconds to take effect, then the dog runs away full tilt and never comes back. I've never seen it done, and please don't turn me in to PETA. ;)

Failed home remedies

54 yo (year old) lady came to see me about a mole she had for 3 years. Been putting kerosene on it - bleached it out, now she's constipated -- Malignant melanoma, died 6 months later (the melanoma had spread to her intestines).

62 yo lady came to see me after she had a heart bypass operation where they take a vein out the calf. It was infected, but she said her treatment with an onion poultice (a paste made from onion and corn meal) was helping for about 2 weeks -- the surgeon cut her leg off at the knee a week later. She ended up sick as stink.

55 yo man came to the ER because he had some chest pain. He had it bad for 4 days continuously, and had treated himself with some herbal tea that had ephedrine in it - therefore expanding his heart attack -- he later died.

To keep the neighborhood dogs from peeing and crapping (can I say that here?) on the lawn, if you put a little vinegar in one gallon water jugs and fill them with water, and set them on the corners of the lawn for a week or so, it repels the dogs, and they don't come back. Go figure. My psycho corgi goes up and licks the jugs - he's a real mess.

Not that I have any problems with home remedies - I use them myself. But if you're not getting better just go see a health care provider of some kind. And I'm not bashing home remedies. Really, I'm not. Just don't blow off something potentially serious. I like LandShark's the best!

Just remember - being dead probably feels significantly below average.
