2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Temp gauge just dropped

noticed my temp gauge after 10 yrs doesnt come up to 200[straight up] on my 2001 2500 ctd. could the thermastat have rusted through. i know my heater core leaks bad. was going to try n add some radiator sealant to it. any body have these probs on a older dodge.

Is is still the stock one?

Change it, they aren't hard to change.

Could just be stuck open. Time for a new one.

Aren't these thermostats "FailSafe" in that when they fail, they fail in the open position? Mine did the exact same thing. Just changed it and back to normal.
