Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Temp guage takes some days off""!

My temp guage , comes and goes, does Cummins Motor Co. make the best one?? And where is a good place to plumb in an aux guage??

In the past on other vehicles I installed the sending unit in the same location that the factory installed it. Usually the side of the block for the water temp. Not sure where it's located on the Cummins.



I would go with a mechanical gauge, little harder to route the line to the gauge. There are lots of aftermarket gauges available.

Where its at

The sending unit is in the head way in the back on the drivers side, it just has one connection and I think its about 22$ from cummins. It might be a little of a pain but it should be okay to get out.

I'll bet that you just have a poor connection at the sender. Same problem you're having happened to me after replacing the return fuel line, hard to avoid bumping into it.

I will check the connector in the morning, and see how it goes. . I dont like running with a temp or oil press. guage I cant trust , so I was thinking of adding an after market, mechanical guage too. .

I got a new sender from Fishers in Biglake, and replaced it ,, so far all is well again... Still thinking about and after market temp and Oil Press. guage. .

Mine started acting up like that too. I managed to get to the connection to push it together. That helped a bit but it still acted up then quit altogether. I don't see where the acess is all that easy to replace it. If and when I get around to it, with the front of the truck downhill, will a lot of antifreeze come out when you swap it?

I drained a little out and then put a vacuum on the cooling system, at the over flow tube. . It was a real chore getting to the sender unit Im not as flexable as I used to be, and I made a "special tool" bent just right to make it easy--r to get it out. .

I rolled over 100k yesterday, and just love this truck, it just gets better and better. .
