temp probe on ATS manifold

Ok guys, I have always thought that the correct way to place the probe for a temp reading was closer to the turbo side of the exhaust manifold. But after looking at the TDR mag, and the picture of the ATS Pulse Manifold it looks like it measures only one chamber. Look at the pic and tell me if i am mistaken... .

Thats not a tap for a probe. You have to tap it, or buy it "pre tapped", I didn't use that hole for anything on mine, but I think its to hold the heater lines or something, but I rerouted one of my heater lines instead.

Reread my post you may have replied as I was editing it, I told ya what I "think" its for, but not sure since I didn't use it on mine, and noone else around here has one.

Yes, it's for a support for the heater lines. It actually doesn't fit the current Rams. It's pre '99 model year or something like that. It may have been designed that way for the 12 Valves even. I used it to support my heater line but I had to severely bend the corresponding support point. How about an update ATS?

Kats right, that tap is to hold heater hose bracket, its really for a 12V. A friend of mine helped me install the ATS one eve. , and I had to leave the next morn. on a trip and didn't have time to fab. a bracket for mine, he noticed it right away, and happened to have an early 98 12V eng. at home, and took the heater line off his eng. and put it on mine. It worked perfect, so I ordered him a new one for his 98, $23. 00 for new line and bracket.

No I don't, but look crefully at the parts picture, there are two steel heater lines on the 12V, the one you want goes over the top of exh. man. , and down to hose, the other angles to the drivers side of eng.

The best way to measure exhaust temperature is with a separate probe for each cylinder and as close to the head as practical.

If you only want to use a single probe, then it needs to be as far down the collector as possible to get a composite reading from as many cylinders as possible.





I know someone that just got an ATS manifold. He is interested in getting it ceramic coated. Does anyone have a recommendation for a place to get is coated?

I got mine coated at Jet-Hot. I debated with myself about which temperature rating to get (1300 or 2000). I chose the 1300 because I wanted the Sterling Silver. I've had it about a year now and it still looks new.
