Gooseneck hitch question

Test drove a new F-450 with pickup bed with auto and 4. 88s today. Looked it over good. This is one bad truck. Suspension front and back is totally bad. Rear end and springs are super bad. Turned 2500rpms at 70mph.

I cant really argue in saying that super duties are nice trucks, but their engines make better paper weights than power plants!

I can't argue with you. It was very quite and very responsive. Under the hood was tight. Maybe this new motor has been done right this time.

You can't get something for nothing. With a GCVW of 33,000#s it is going to take a pretty good truck. I think the new DC 5500 with 4. 10s will have only 25-26k GCVW.

I know, nothing to admit, but I have been reading over on a Powerstroke site and there is a thread about one dealership that has sold 8 and 5 are back in the shop with catastrophic engine failure. That is not a good sign.

I went back and reread, and I need to correct my numbers. 5 were sold and 3 are back in the shop. Sorry.

While I am glad that DC FINALLY got around to the 4500/5500 vehicles, they don't seem to be a strong competitor.
Maybe they have a specific market that I don't see. They always market to someone, but I just wonder who they are.

Can't you get the Cat and Cummins in the F450? Or is that only the F550 and up that you can do that?

I drove Fords for 10 years before I purchased my first DC. I do like the new 450. They have done a great job on the running gear. My 06' now is as strong as this new 450. I will still wait to look at a 4500/5500 with dually bed before I buy again. :-laf

The new Ford brochure in my hand rates the F450 with auto and 4. 88s as follows:

4. 88=33,000#s GCVW

5th. wheel towing of 24,500#s. with 4. 88s with 4x2 truck

4x4 is 24,000#s.

New 5500 GCVW is 26,000#s.

Because as I said in my article they are not targeting the personal RV towing market. Their target market is the in the commerical service body industry.

Hey Steve,

That is crap. 95% of RVers in this country really do not need a lot of GVRW. Most of the DOT in this country could care less. I can pass a weigh station in NC or 95% of other states and DOT could care less.

The buyers of these trucks for commercial are the guys that can get fined out of the wazoo for exceeding their GVW/GCVW. Buyers of commercial 5500s want to be able to pull 25-40k legal. The stiffs on this board and others like it that are daily pulling 30-40k for a living for the most part are pretty quiet. They could care less about a service bed but most likely would or do have a flat bed with a goose neck trailer.
