Well here goes. I just sold my 96 2500 and purchased this newer 98 12V 3500. I will be putting some money into the 3500. Its got the 5 sp, 215 hp cummins. I will be using the truck daily and for some towing of a new slide in and my racecar. Probably not more than 12,000 lbs. I saw a while back that a very reputable vendor gave reccomendations for the proper sequence for upgrades: Gauges
K&N filter
4" exhuast
cam plate
injectors.
Taking all of that into consideration and with some of the new additions we have to choose from what reccomendations would everyone consider after these. What sequence. I do have some money and I will be doing gauges and a K&N and a 4" first off. But while the truck is getting some service work done I would like to add a exhaust brake maybe. Also I like what I hear about the gov. spring kit and 370 injectors. I have also decided to have the pump time around 15. 5 for good economy. Should I go with the 16cm? Or should I just get the big turbo? I would like to get a good return for my investment. I don't want to do any trans. uprades just yet. The 5th gear nut thing has already been adressed by the previous owner. I am also considering ricksons.
With the later 7100 pump do I need to add delivery valves?

Thanks in advance as I embark on starting to bomb again. Just when I started to get the 96 2500 going I ended up selling it to accomodate a huge slide in camper.

Seems as though you have your bombing plans mapped out pretty well. IMO the injectors should come before or at the same time as the cam plate. If you tow and have the $ you'll love the E-brake. After that I would stop until you see how the truck pulls for you and how the EGTs are running. You may not need to go any further. A Phscotty will drop your ETs about 150 F and is much cheaper than a turbo.

I would suggest that prior to adding the 4" exhaust, that you consider the exhaust brake. IMHO the brake while pricey gives one of the best returns on your investment. If you go with the brake style that replaces the elbow off of your turbo, you may regret it later if you decide to go for the HX40 super turbo. In that case you may want an inline style brake.

At the Tulare show I saw a filter that may be better then K&N. Called the company and got a little sales pitch and didn't get all the info I wanted so they are sending snail mail more info. Seems former employees of K&N went off on ther own to make and sell better then K&N filters. Remains to be seen. www.afefilters.com

Hey HVAC, is that your everyday vehicle or do you just bring it out weekends? #ad

The set up I am running right now is the best towing set up I have had, with exception of the clutch slips in 5th. The order I would do this is Gauges, exhaust, TST torque plate, 16CM2 housing, Clutch, and 370 HP injectors.

Good luck and have FUN,

I agree with Drawson also you need an AFC spring kit and don't rule out a govoner spring kit it really helps the torque curve.

Griff996,

You have a great year 12 Valve truck to "Bomb". I wish I had your Injection pump! #ad

I agree with everything said so far. I`d wait to swap exhaust turbo housings. I have the stock 12CM2 and have no problems with EGT. Ted Jennetty runs a 450 hp truck with the 12CM2 housing and will never try another turbo or housing again. He swears by the 12. No egt problems either, empty or towing. I am going to experiment with the 16cm2. What the heck.

You won`t need high performance delivery valves to run the 370`s. Another member here "DieselB59" has a 97 or 98 injection pump like yours, and says better delivery valves really make the 370`s work like they should.

Take care

Griff996 --- Ya got one of the best trucks to do the "Bombing Routine" to. To add my few pennies I'd do the filter, gauges, cam plate, AFC spring and exhaust brake in that order. You will see quite a difference in just the cam plate #10 or #11 and spring swap out. I'll probably get flamed but just can't see the bigger exhaust or injectors when ya keep the mod's with in reason due to the limitations of the drive line. I'd look at the overdrive add on also. The high side of fourth gear is real gutsy with boost and RPM up where around 2100/2200 RPM. Good Luck on getting the truck to run in ways of others only dream about... ... Da Iceman... .

I'll 3rd drawson & raise him with the governor spring kit followed by the Scotty air cleaner. I wouldn't do the K&N in the stock housing to gain performance. Just doesn't do it.

Will a BD brake work with a Jardine without any special modifications to the exhaust system?

Well I think I am gonna order some stuff up next week. The same autometers I had in my 2500. 0-50 boost, trans, comp egt. The Jardine and the camplate, not sure what one yet. The Afc spring kit as well as the gov. kit. I think I will try to do most of this and then take it to Autowurks for the install of the BD brake and some pump tweaking. Have Michael set the pump up to 15. 5 if he likes the set up at that point. JB, I would like your assistance even though your a 24v er. But that does not matter your a good guy. If you and Jen are not busy this weekend maybe you guys could come over for some of my famous burgers. Let us know. No work just social.

Thanks to all of you guys so far. I hope to give you some good news in a few weeks about my numbers and how everything is running. Any othe suggestions are more than welcome.
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT # PLATE I SHOULD BY AND FROM WHO.

I miss my 2500.

Hey Guys, Can an old 'stocker' get in here? I'm looking for a set of 215 hp injectors, to bring my old stock 180hp '95 up to the level of my stock '97 215hp. Has anyone got any 215's that they don't plan to reuse?
Thanks
