Well, I took the plunge and after saving my $$ for 2 years, I went to Abbottsford, BC. and met up with all the SUPREME people at DTT. Before they(Vinnie and Darren) pulled out my trans, they took it for a drive with the trans pressure gage's hooked up to it. After that, it hit the rack and about 40 minutes later, the trans was out. As it came apart, Vinnie checked various components with a portable tester that oil fed certain parts of the trans(pan off) to ck for leak points. He showed me how the stock pistons leak off on the trans. The trans was finally completely torn down and the transformation began!! Darren is the valve body builder. He has a sheet that has my truck profile on it that He builds the valve body by. It tells him what performance mods I have or want to put on later. He asked me if I wanted it to shift firm and I said YES! He then installs the valve body in a machine that basically simulates the trans and how it shifts. Darren looked at all pressures and "Dialed it in". The trans case and all parts were thoroughly cleaned in a hot bath before re assembly. Bill K then joined in and built the main section of the trans. He showed me all of the new "Trick" goodies that I was going to get and what they did to make it a real DTT Transmission. Bill also installed the Billet input shaft that He builds to lessen the chance of input shaft breakage with power mods and Exhaust brake use.
Vinnie meticulously and I mean METICULOUSLY! took apart my overdrive section and inspected, measured, and modified my OD unit. Vinnie then completed the rest of the trans build and pressure checked and measured ALL clearances as it went back together.
Vinnie and Darren worked together as a real team and re installed the trans in the truck. They filled it with oil, installed and set up the voltage regulator for the trans, installed their test gages and took the truck for a drive to ck the trans performance and pressures.
When they came back, Bill told Vinnie to take me out in it and see how I liked it. NOW WHO WOULDN'T LIKE THIS PART???
It was as different as night and day!! The first thing I noticed is the take off. No more "Slush and Go!" This thing puts the power to the road... and right now! I didn't have the EZ hooked up yet but the DDII's were in. We came back and I hooked up the EZ and Vinnie and I went out for Mr. TOADS WILD RIDE! He took me out on this deserted side road and told me to stand on it all the way and let it shift through all of the gerars. It did a little sideways thing when it shifted from first to second. We then did a "Normal" drive and Vinnie clued me in on how I should drive it.
We went back to the shop and I gave everyone the big smile
and thumbs up. Bills wife, Shantie (I don't know how she does it all) took care of all of the paper work ( between all of the phone calls, parts requests, racing things). She is irreplaceable for Bill and the shop. She knows as much as anybody there as to what runs good on your truck! I parted with my $$ and headed back accross the border to Seattle to my friends house to stay the night before giong home.
The truck ran flawlessly home. I averaged 21MPG on both tanks of fuel home. I drove 70-80 mph on I-5 as soon as I hit Calif.
The truck wants to run at 75mph... It gets its best mileage now there.
Lets see now... . I need a bigger Turbo (to get the EGT's down) and what else do I need to save for
