Banks Big Ram ???

Well, I took the plunge and after saving my $$ for 2 years, I went to Abbottsford, BC. and met up with all the SUPREME people at DTT. Before they(Vinnie and Darren) pulled out my trans, they took it for a drive with the trans pressure gage's hooked up to it. After that, it hit the rack and about 40 minutes later, the trans was out. As it came apart, Vinnie checked various components with a portable tester that oil fed certain parts of the trans(pan off) to ck for leak points. He showed me how the stock pistons leak off on the trans. The trans was finally completely torn down and the transformation began!! Darren is the valve body builder. He has a sheet that has my truck profile on it that He builds the valve body by. It tells him what performance mods I have or want to put on later. He asked me if I wanted it to shift firm and I said YES! He then installs the valve body in a machine that basically simulates the trans and how it shifts. Darren looked at all pressures and "Dialed it in". The trans case and all parts were thoroughly cleaned in a hot bath before re assembly. Bill K then joined in and built the main section of the trans. He showed me all of the new "Trick" goodies that I was going to get and what they did to make it a real DTT Transmission. Bill also installed the Billet input shaft that He builds to lessen the chance of input shaft breakage with power mods and Exhaust brake use.

Vinnie meticulously and I mean METICULOUSLY! took apart my overdrive section and inspected, measured, and modified my OD unit. Vinnie then completed the rest of the trans build and pressure checked and measured ALL clearances as it went back together.

Vinnie and Darren worked together as a real team and re installed the trans in the truck. They filled it with oil, installed and set up the voltage regulator for the trans, installed their test gages and took the truck for a drive to ck the trans performance and pressures.

When they came back, Bill told Vinnie to take me out in it and see how I liked it. NOW WHO WOULDN'T LIKE THIS PART???

It was as different as night and day!! The first thing I noticed is the take off. No more "Slush and Go!" This thing puts the power to the road... and right now! I didn't have the EZ hooked up yet but the DDII's were in. We came back and I hooked up the EZ and Vinnie and I went out for Mr. TOADS WILD RIDE! He took me out on this deserted side road and told me to stand on it all the way and let it shift through all of the gerars. It did a little sideways thing when it shifted from first to second. We then did a "Normal" drive and Vinnie clued me in on how I should drive it.

We went back to the shop and I gave everyone the big smile:D and thumbs up. Bills wife, Shantie (I don't know how she does it all) took care of all of the paper work ( between all of the phone calls, parts requests, racing things). She is irreplaceable for Bill and the shop. She knows as much as anybody there as to what runs good on your truck! I parted with my $$ and headed back accross the border to Seattle to my friends house to stay the night before giong home.

The truck ran flawlessly home. I averaged 21MPG on both tanks of fuel home. I drove 70-80 mph on I-5 as soon as I hit Calif.

The truck wants to run at 75mph... It gets its best mileage now there.

Lets see now... . I need a bigger Turbo (to get the EGT's down) and what else do I need to save for ;)

I have to agree with you, ALL of the people at DTT are first class!

I really liked the way that they explained everything to me as they were doing all of the work.

Definately worth the trip to BC for the $$$

lot of team players

Shanti knows her place and does it quite well. :)

and Krystal is #1 is customer service too

The Monday I got the job done was rather hectic at the shop. Bills son, Stephan had the dragster Camaro catch on fire last Sunday while he was racing it. He was not hurt at all but the car had some fire damage to it and the nationals are coming up this weekend. I heard Bill say a few times that my truck came first... IT WAS JUST THAT WAY! Stephan worked on the Camaro so they could pull the engine out (tear-down) and they had to replace the left aluminum fire wall that had burned through right by Stephans feet. He won the race though!

Everyone at the shop was the greatest and I would do it all again.

I know the feeling

I went up there two years ago and Bill rebuilt mine. It certainly was an enjoyable experience and so obvious to me that Bill wanted me to be completely satisfied.

After the trans was back in my truck,Bill, knowing I had never driven a truck with his trans before said"Lets take a ride". After having used a BD LS TC and TFOD shift kit for 70,000 miles,I was elated.

Bill was not quite so happy and back to his shop we went. Said it was not shifting like he wanted it to. Up on the lift again draining hot ATF and removing the valve body,I am thinking how could it be any better? Makes some changes in the vb. Back together and another drive. Bill is happy now.

Here is the thing. Bill could have sent me down the road the first time and I would not have known anything. But Bill would have.

All of us,whether we use a DTT trans or another rebuilder's,owe Bill alot for raising the bar like he has on rebuilding our transmissions.

Thanks to Bill,Shanti,Stephan,Darren,Vinnie and Krystal for a job well done. Then and now.

I haven't had the pleasure.........

Of meeting the whole crew that is. I had my work done by one of Bill's trained installers. Fred Swanson of Desert Diesel Parts near Phoenix. He has now done the work on both trucks and I can say that it's a pleasure working with Fred. Bill trains them right.

No matter which installer Bill sends you to it's good to know your getting the best trained and customer oriented people out there.

DTT Pilgrimage

Two years and almost 40k miles later,(since making the self-same DTT "pilgrimage"), I am very pleased with the upgrade, which has proven responsive and reliable. Given my current location, reliability is an important consideration, which is not often cited but important neverthelesss.

The DTT Smart Box of course. You just have to have it to make the trans. complete.

Dave

David, thats coming soon I hope! I do need to put a bigger turbo on now because I have seen 1250* "like right now" on the EGT gage. I have to deal:{ :{ a little with my wife;) to rationalize the next phase of "goodies".

Still smokin' the tires off the rim at 35,000 miles on the DTT transmission.

Build a DTT transmission for a 250-270 HP truck, then 15 months and 30K later it's making repeated 12 second passes on the same transmission! Enough said about the designer and builder!

Jim

I am not making any 12 second passes but my transmission (actually just a VB and TC) replacment) are still holding after I told Bill I would have 300 hp and now I have 400++... .

Hey Jim, tell me about Haisley fuel system.

There are 2 versions, 12V/24V! 24V is limited to 15 psi and Van runs it on his puller truck, mine for a 12V uses a 125 psi pump capable of 100GPH... max on both! Mine runs 33 psi with the stock system and I can pull it down to 7 psi, with the aux on also, it runs at 42 psi and I can pull it down to 32 psi..... I think it works.

They use a separate pickup, pump, filter and lines, then join the stock system at the feed banjo bolt. I run this when I'm playing or at the track, I've left it on for 20 minutes before and it never heats up and have never had a problem with it. There is an ad under Hasley Machine in the TDR mag for the system.

NEEDED QUESTION ANSWERED FROM ALL DTT TRANS OWNERS

I have a question for all of you that have the DTT trans. It works very well on fast hard throttle shifts... BUT I have noticed something that alarms me... When I drive light throttle, in second getting ready to shift to third, If I let off of the throttle before it is JUST ready to shift into third, It feels like the trans is hanging on to second and trying to shift into third. You can feel the truck"brake" on and off sort of. I don't want to knock out second band. Do any of you guys notice this???
