The Bandag Bullet set the Guinness world record as the world’s fastest truck over a standing quarter mile, at Calder Park International Raceway on Sunday October 18, 1987.

Driven by Frank Gaffiero, the record time of 14 seconds was the best time clocked over a set of three runs.
Officiating at the event and representing the Guinness Book of Records were CAMS (Confederation of Australian Motor Sport) Senior Official and Clerk of the Cource, Tim Schenken and from England, Andrew Marriot.

Burning down the straight the Bandag Bullet reached a terminal speed of 100mph (165kmh).
Driver and creator of the Bandag Bullet, Frank Gaffiero, said the custom made engine was specifically designed to create as much power as possible.

"It is a detroit diesel with two 8V 92 Series linked together with two superchargers and four turbo chargers", he said. "When injected with nitrous oxide the power is boosted from 2200 horsepower to 2800 horsepower. "

The Bandag Bullet also gains maximum speed by running on standard Bandag retreads. These retreads are the same tyres used by transport operators all over the country.

Just for your information, there are a few more toys being built around here. And I mean just private individuals with a little bit of money to spend. Next year is going to be a year of diesel racing. I can't wait.

This is a good point. I think some of us forget sometimes, myself included, that there is a ton more stuff out there that we do not read, see, or hear about on the TDR or other diesel related sites.

c'mon comp a month ago you were all for promoting the sport ...

that's exactly what edge has done in a national mag

keep settin' records and quit whining :p

Comp all you need is someone to beat you butt and that will shut you up. Thank God.

Brag about what you are doing, not what you have done in the past. We all know what you have done, so what in new for the furture?
