The Bandag Bullet set the Guinness world record as the world’s fastest truck over a standing quarter mile, at Calder Park International Raceway on Sunday October 18, 1987. [/font]
[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Driven by Frank Gaffiero, the record time of 14 seconds was the best time clocked over a set of three runs.
Officiating at the event and representing the Guinness Book of Records were CAMS (Confederation of Australian Motor Sport) Senior Official and Clerk of the Cource, Tim Schenken and from England, Andrew Marriot. [/font]
[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Burning down the straight the Bandag Bullet reached a terminal speed of 100mph (165kmh).
Driver and creator of the Bandag Bullet, Frank Gaffiero, said the custom made engine was specifically designed to create as much power as possible. [/font]
[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"It is a detroit diesel with two 8V 92 Series linked together with two superchargers and four turbo chargers", he said. "When injected with nitrous oxide the power is boosted from 2200 horsepower to 2800 horsepower. "[/font]
[font=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]The Bandag Bullet also gains maximum speed by running on standard Bandag retreads. These retreads are the same tyres used by transport operators all over the country. [/font]
