Any "Carriage"owners out there?

I think the guy has way too high expectations for an electric vehicle performance. They are not like internal combustion engines where you can get maximum power down the to last gallon of fuel consumed.

Just my thoughts...

Well I think the Video is pretty much authentic, he drives down a flat interstate, going the speed limit with an itty-bitty trailer and the range goes down by a Factor of 4? That's not working out at all.

So, they’re going to have electric semi’s and school buses. Do we load them down with enough batteries to let them drive 600 miles and then see how much room they have for cargo?

There's going to be a point of depreciating returns, adding larger denser batteries means more weight, more weight to overcome for better range, which is why larger denser batteries were added in the first place.

And the weather was well above freezing! The cold would've taken even more out of the range! Yes, the motors have the power to move the loads, but at what cost? The more you ask a battery to due, the hotter it'll get, and the less available charge for the systems. One day it'll get figured out, just like all of the other things we've overcome through the years! Pushing it at the pace they're going, will be a disaster! Let's first figure out the recycling part first, then infrastructure and last offer a range to fit the need of a rural driver! For someone to travel down the east coast to go on a vacation, ADD 2 - 3 hours extra travel time to recharge! I'm with @bcbender, they'll have to pry my RAM from my cold dead fingers! o_O

Bring on the hydrogen vehicles! Split H2O, put the H in the tank, burn it and by product is H2O.

I think I’ve posted this before, but when I worked at the bike shop, one of the office girls and her husband bought a pair of EV cars. She had one of the techs run an extension cord out to her parking space and plugged it up every day. This went on for a couple of weeks until I asked the owner when was he was putting in fuel pumps for everyone else’s vehicles. The cord was gone that afternoon and the EV car was gone after a month or two.

Not the same but related.

On Airforums there has been extensive “discussion” about EV charging in campgrounds. A large group of the proponents feel they are owed the right to charge at a campground pedestal because they have already paid for it so why not.

I don’t think it’s a clear yes / no yet as to if ok but if I was an independent camp owner and my billing model was based on RV usage but not the additional EV charging I’d be posting no EV charging at the pedestal and if my service permitted an EV charging station would be considered but I’m not giving away power you somehow pay.

Many RV places have listed themselves as charging stations, so that tells me that they are okay with it.

This whole problem could be solved by only towing trailers with onboard generators. Instead of a 2nd plug for a DC-DC charger have a plug that puts the trailer 110/240 into the trucks charger :D

That brings up another question, does an electric TV with a 7 pin connection charge the trailer batteries? That’s even more lost power.

A lot of RV campgrounds are marginal at best on electric anyway!

Right!

The 50A sides seem to be better than the 30A side due to less use, but even then people are learning the trick of using a 30-50A adapter to get a better connection. That doesn’t even get started on the voltage issues, but that may not matter too much depending on the charger.

In order to electrify the nation which needs to happen regardless of EV's is explained by a very calm knowledgeable nuclear energy expert.

The FEDS announce sometime in the last month or so, that they were going to provide EV charging stations about every 50 miles or so. Guess who is footing the bill for this.

I think the cart is being put before the Ox here, the grid and supporting infrastructure isn't adequate enough. Some Southern and Midwestern states can barely maintain a decent road much less highway system as is. I bet that federal stipend is going to be funneled into other "related" projects as an excuse for "building" supporting infrastructure.

There needs to be standardization for EV batteries and charging technology, having a station with 4-5 adapters for different charging systems or a single station for one mfg. is going to get old really quick.
