The file that he sent me has a . 7z extension. It is a zip file, I used 7-zip (a free download do a google search) to unzip it. It unzips to a file with the extension . smt, that is the file to load to the downloader. Hope this helps.

I have a bunch of questions including yours about the duration settings. I had it set to 5 but it felt sluggish, backed it off to 3 and it seems alot crisper... Also wondering what the torque management does...

With smarty set to 5, duration to 3, timing to 4, torque to 6 all I can say is WOW... . The SPS72 has always been sluggish slow to spool and everything I have tried EZ, Smarty, juice, and stacking didn't seem to help... . The revo is like I have a new truck *S*... Have to play with settings... . Hoping someone will post some recomendations for settings. .

I too, have some questions:

Ok I got the beta software loaded on the Smarty and the truck but have some questions for you hot rodders.

I understand the torque management values but the injection timing and duration has got me .

Could someone explain to me how injection timing and duration relates to the new settings in the beta software? What are the pros and cons of running more timing? How about pros and cons of running longer duration. If the injectors are mechanical and not electronic, how can the duration be changed?

I hesitate to run everything on kill until I understand what it is doing and what I shouldn't be doing.

Thanks in advance.

Phil

thanks for the tip on zip file I will have to try tonight at home at work its a no no I work for the govt. so I cant download. I also have tst has anyone ran new software with a stack.

beta

okay having problems with gettng sw to the downloader. I could not download 7 zip but used another company I have all files. usb/zip/smarty and all accompanied files in the same folder now what do I have to do to get it downloaded on the downloader. I walked through new hardware program. is the downloader suppose to pick up the files when I plug in usb? whats the step I know I'm missing

I downloaded the unzip program then installed it. If you right click on the . 7z you should see extract files, you can choose extract here and will unzip into the folder with the . 7z file or create/navigate to another folder. The unziped file should be . smt extention. That is the file to install on the downloader (handheld device). To install it you need to have the driver from the Mad site, there is a .pdf there that tells you how to install the driver. You also have to get the "smartyusb. exe" from the mad site. I just right clicked on it and saved it to a folder I had previously created. With the drivers installed, the . smt file available and the downloader conected to a usb on the computer left click on the smartyusb. exe and a window will open. On the file drop down in the upper left corner go to open and navigate to the . smt file open it and then hit the send button. This sends the . smt file to the smarty, take about 5 minutes... . This is how I did it, hopefully I didn't leave out any steps our get the order wrong... Important to follow the instuctions in the pdf for installing the drivers... also important to know where you saved, installed, unzipped stuff to be able to find... . Hopefully I didn't make this more confusing then it is... Maybe someone knows an easier way or even a more correct way to do...

thanks figured it out uh. I installed but didnt r/click go to . 7z and extract here. duh I should know these things. not really. I a computer boob. thanks will try programs tomorrow on the way to work.

After two days of short trips with the beta, here are my first impressions. Smoother and more linear, less smoke, and did I say smooth!:) The original had a lope or surge when letting out the clutch, without the go pedal. It sounded like a 12V with big sticks. It was cool in the right environment but not in front of the cops when dropping the kids off at school. Now it is very smooth. It seems I can drive harder with less smoke. This was with all the settings maxed out. My normal setting is 9!:-laf I am going to lower the timing and try that. I would like to hear from others about what setting seem to work the best.

Marco, great job. I was one of the first to buy when you released the Smarty and have always been extremely impressed with each software release. Thank you for the dedication to Continuous Improvement.

beta impression

well I drove this morning and noticed it is smoother I havent driven it on all settings there is alot to choose and trial and choose. like dieselnutz I have noticed a considerable amount of less lope when letting out the clutch before I would have to bring the rpms up to 1200 now it just seems smoother. I still havent messed with timing and duration (dont understand the values on the the numbers) are these sub values. or what . sw-9 on origan smarty was full catcher full timing. and now confused with 4 levels of timing. at the same time of having sw-9 loaded. BOB... . can you explain the timing or duration. so far feels awesome I want to put some miles and drive some familiar spots and I will give you a report. oh and yes it does smoke less .

Did some testing yesterday. Set everything to max at first and SW#9. Everything else as in sig.

Touchy pedal, but great spoolup and, as some have reported already, no hesitation and no belching smoke. It was hard to belive. Where has all the smoke gone? Yes, I can still smoke people at will, but I can see them through the little puff...:-laf

What I wanted to know was if I could get out of the top end cancelation smarty gets on higher levels, so i took the duration down to stock (1) and the touchiness got lost, but still the CatcherSW´s type of pedal travel with less power after half the pedaltravel. Better than with duration on 6, but not gone.

Loaded SW #5 and set the duration back to 6. Touchiness was back, but not as bad as with #9, so I set i back to 1 and this was not touchy anymore, but the "halfpedaltravelfeel" was still there, but the best until this point, so I decided to try the Adrenaline timing added to wild timing on Smarty. Didn´t drive it so hard, remebering Marco said not to load the engine hard(towing) in fuelsavermode, due to too much timing, a long time ago.

Come to a stop an the idle was loopey so I turned the Adrenaline off.

Next step was turning the timing back to stock and bring the Adrenaline on.

REVO at Torque 6, Timing 1 and duration 1. Adrenaline Comptune at PL05.

This is how it is setup for now, and WooHoo... ... :-laf

This rocks!

Incredible spoolup, Smoke is back to when I had Smarty ONLY, at least almost... . :p, No hesitation. Pedal is a little touchy, but it´s not that bad.

It sure is the funniest mode I had on this truck ever.

Haven´t gone WOT from standing still yet b/c I dont want to smoke in town, but I can drive really responsive and have tons of smokefree power for driving in town.

This REVO tool combined with Pulse customtuning is probably going to be the coolest stack ever for us VP boys!

REVO, worth waiting for!:-laf:-laf:-laf

Yes sir!

I had an appointment this morning and had been playing with settings to find out what is what and what seems to work best for the truck. I didn't have time to change back to something I'm familiar with so I just figured I'd watch the EGT and drive accordingly. Oh, did I say my appointment was for my 5er so I had to hook the trailer up and tow it. The last setting I had it on was:

Tq=0

IT=4

ID=5

L9

Little smoke if any, boost right now, and EGTs 6-800* the whole trip. Even in the stop and go of city driving EGTs were reasonable.

I need to find out what these things mean and what seems best for my truck, so far so good. I say they have a winner.

VIVA LA SWISS :-laf love it.

I´m sorry to say that TM delete setting doesnt work for me. Maybe thats why there was so little smoke.

It still runs really good, but I went to a race this weekend and had to load the old SW into Smarty to make burnouts and to run boosted launches.

With Revo I couldn´t build more than 10 Psi:confused:

I know 1 more that has the same issue with the Revo BETA SW

Thats life using Betastuff! Just letting Marco/Bob know about the issue!

BTW the race was raining away, but I was able to run 2 passes in 48 hours... . #@$%!

Best run was 8. 34 @ 85 mph 1/8 mile

I towed heavy this week & I gotta say... this REVO is awesome! I couldn't get egts over 1150*, no matter how hard I pushed it. It was kinda wierd not seeing the Smarty cloud following me down the road too. Big thumbs up to Marco/Bob, I'm loving it!

What settings were you using? I'm fixing to tow this upcoming weekend and have no idea where to start. I guess I could start on the lowest settings and go up from there, but feedback from others using REVO and towing would be awesome.

Take care,

Casey

Funny I was just checking mine out today with different timing settings and am very impressed with the ability to set it exactly where the truck runs best, and was planning to post it here also.

I like:

Software# 1
Torque# 1 (stock)
Timing# (#3 or #4 for daily driving empty) (#2 or #3 for towing)
Duration# 1 (stock)

Haven't tried towing yet but there is no evidence of hammer or rattle at all on 2 or 3, and on 4 it's just starting to give a hint, but nothing excessive. I agree that EGT's are good and overall drivability is very good, it really turns on the power, but only when you want it (after having to give it a good dose of go pedal) and there are a lot of options to choose from.

Heck, I'm happy with the mildest SW it has, but for you people that like racier running machines, just choose #5 or 7 or more & crank 'er up!

So, for towing, its up to your taste and combo of mods, but I'm pretty confident the above setting is gonna work for my setup.

Thanks Smarty team, you're making points fast. . :D

(see - Im not always bashing products - lol)

I ran sw5, turned the Adrenaline off & cranked Smarty timing to max. It tows really well on that setting. I have so many choices between the Adrenaline/Smarty, This is awesome!!!!
