Well, courtesy of a great opportunity (and promotion), I may soon have about $8K in the BOMB fund near summer's end.

So what would YOU do with that kind of BOMB money burning a hole in your pocket?

The hypothetical truck in question is remarkably similar to the '02 ETH in my sig..... stock intake, stock exhaust, EZ and DD2s.

Right now I'm leaning towards Twins and T-rex... .

Send me the check and I'll show you what I would do... I'll pm you my address :D :D

But seriously, I would get twins with a BB turbo, mach 5's, Drag comp, double disc clutch, port and fire ring the head... . have I reached 8k yet?;)

Note sig-- 6-speed...

Here's my prelim thoughts... .

BB Primary: $2800

PDR40 secondary: $1000

Mach 5s: $1000

Some kind of holding clutch: $1900

TST comp: $700

O-ring head: $1000

DD Cam: $1500

Oh, I guess I ran out of money about $3K ago...

So much for the Reunel, Lightforce HIDs, T-rex suspension, etc...

The reality will most likely end up looking like a DodgeZilla or PDR 40, Some Mach 3. 5s, and a PMAX comp.

It's scary to think how fast you can blow 8K and not be quite where you want to be... .

Yeah it goes fast, I would still want a cam, kelderman air ride front and back ooh and 19. 5's oh ya..... I'll definately be needed your 8k to help get to where I want to be :p

Unfortunately in this day and time 8,000. 00 isn't really much at all to spend on up-grades. Heavy duty parts for these trucks are very expensive, and their are many on this and other forums that have spent easily 3 and 4 times that amount. Eight grand gets you a new auto trany complete, PAC-brake and a set of bumpers. Don't get me wrong, it is fun to spend money, just don't get to worked up over the eight grand part. Lets see, your T-Rex kit runs 4500. 00, couple that with some nice new wheels and tires, and a box and your broke. But you would have a lot of fun blasting over the country side. Have fun with the new toys.

As tempting as it is to twin the truck, it just seems past the point of diminishing returns for me. Maybe a twins setup using my existing HX35 would be more cost effective?

My reality will look more like a hybrid or B1, a PMAX comp, and whatever injector that will support.

If I play the cards right, I could get 500hp AND T-rex:)

If it was me and I had access to a welder as well as some wrenching skills this is what I would do: (Oh and the truck must be able to be down for a week or two as well)

Take the head off and send it to DonM, PDR, or any other person capable of o-ringing. (around 4-500 shipped)

Buy a set of good quality studs (450)

. 020 over Headgasket (90)

Build your own twins using your stocker (anywhere from 1000-2000 depending on turbos and wastegates and such)

Clutch (1900 borrowed from you)

Mach 4's or Mach 5's (900-1000)

Sell the DD2's and EZ to pay for a drag comp

T-REX (4500)

Total 8240-10440

If you stick to the low end you get a cool suspension with about 550hp.

Me personally I would buy a Jeep or similar to go wheeling with before I spent 4500 on a suspension, especially if I didn't have the $$$$ to fix the parts 550hp might break on a 7500lb truck. Sure you can break parts on a Jeep but they are cheaper to fix and less hp = fewer broken parts.

Just my . 02

Nathan

P. S. from a practical standpoint. If you own a house put the T-rex money toward a house. It will triple it's value over the life of the loan where as the suspension will go down to about a third it's worth in 5 years. Just thought I'd give you a reality check as well. :)

I don't know exact prices so bare with me... ...

EEP Dual Disk w/upgraded flywheel ($2300 I believe  )

O-ring / Fire Ring the head ($400-500 borrowed :p )

B1 Turbo, or a JR Adkins Special. ($X,XXX? call 'em & see :-laf )

BIG set of Injectors ($XXX-$X,XXX vendor of choice)

Diesel Dynamic's UFM (reprog'd Edge Comp) ($700 I believe)

Play your cards right and that's still A LOT of $$ left to upgrade drivetain after breakage with newfound power above! :-laf Oo.

Try having a daily driver, non-smoker, that can tow at 10,000 feet. My stock HX-35 has to much lag, get's over 1400* without the comp turned on, I am seriously under turboed.

Other than a cam, I don't know what else would help besides twins.

Matt

mgoncalves, that all depends on the mods. 10k feet is going to kill you regardless of what you have. Most people, luckily :) , don't live up there. Sure, a cam would help, but a properly sized turbo will too.

Formula 1 Mach 4's $900

Clutch for $1900? Is this clutch gold plated or something?:)

South Bend Clutch FE $880

Hotrod 40 turbo $1000

AFE Stage II $350

4" exhaust $325

TST PM3 $700

FASS System $550

Very impressive truck with money left in your pocket!!:D

Guys, the T-rex suspension is only $3000 w/ Fox shocks.

I like Jay's approach. Money left over is always good.

That said, I am shooting for 500hp, 1100+lb-ft. I think this would easily be attainable with a single turbo, but you end up with a lot of smoke because of lag.

I would love to be able to run huge fuel with almost no smoke. The cleaner, the better. Twins are just more efficient and really keep the smoke down when sized properly. And if you're running 60psi of boost (like you could from a standard B1), the twins are going to get there a LOT sooner than the std B1.

Hmmm... .

Justin,

Just send the money and I'll make some "hands-on" evaluations and let you know the results. Of course, if I don't get the evaluations completed, you might have to send me some more money! ;)
