2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission The Safest Pump Wire Tapping Solution

After fondeling a few tee-tap's and droping and losing them to the CTD gods somewhere in the engine compartment I finnaly desided to Solder the pump wire ... all was well for a while then My ECM died and im going to contribute the failure to the fact That i possible OVER Solidered the wire and added an unnessasary Load that in the end caught up to me... . reguardless if that it exactly what killed my ECM ..... its what Im going to Say happened . With another ECM and a revamped comp I Super heated my soildering iron with a torch and burned all the solider off my pump wire and went with this

and so far I have ZERO issues with it and I truly beleave my pump wire is more taped now than ever due to the trail of smoke at launch instead of the puff ... .

Looks like it will work just fine. I've been using the posi-locks for years. Hadn't heard of the taps, will have to find some and add to the electrical kit.

My mechanic gave me the fansy little conector and I loved it but couldnt find any info on it then while glancing threw the new genos mag..... THERE IT WAS !!!



Pretty $$$$ in bulk I just ordered them direct in packs of 10 for 5. 99



in genos you get 40 of them for $40. 00 it would be a while before I use 40 of them so I just ordered them directly from SWENCO.



Maybe genos can offer the smaller packs???

Laymens Terms:



one side has a pin and the other side has a metal Cone inside you put the base under the Hot wire and then tighten down the body of the conector that taps it ..... you then skin the input (for what ever) wire and just put it along the cone on the inside and when you tighten down the cap it smashs the input wire against the steal cone and that also seals it up.



I think that makes sence

I think the 10-18 gauge Tap is the one.



Not possitive on the Comp wire size... . HUMMMM... ... ... ... ...



I would say its either 10-12-14-16-18 . its way too small for 8 and too big for 20 so the 10-18 is perfect.

Yes the Blue Chip cover is the way to go if you have yet to tap the pump wire (SNEAKS WIRE TAP PAST DEALERS FOR WARRANTEE WORK) but once you have already tapped the pump wire and voided your warrantee why take a chance of cracking the Vp44 Circuit board ... . ?? are there and other advantages to the Cover . . ??

BlueChip Cover

It seems to a weather proof solution. It's a replacment cover for the VP-44's top, and it has a sharpened stud that pierces the pump wire inside. You test it by using a 12Volt light. I plan to use it after I find some $$$$. 00 for a transmission. Moose00

I'm using the Blue Chip cover with my FMS. Chip was pretty adament about not soldering any of the connections. I didn't ask why, but thats what he said.

BTW, I was using a BD pump cover when I ran a comp, and it didn't fit as well as the Blue Chip cover.

On posi-taps website it says avalible at Wal-mart ... . I went to wal-mart .com and did a search for posi-tap and didnt get anything ... . so I thought that maybe they didnt have them yet ... but I guess they do... cool

My local walmart didn't have them. And they are the only ones on their list that supposedly has the taps.

Those PosiLoks look pretty nice. However, they are really the same thing as a scotchlock, and scotchlocks suck. It is still a bandaid IMO, soldering is better but this is quick and easy

They are the same as a scotchlock in the sense that they allow you to tap into another wire without cutting it, but thats where the similarities end. Their design assures that the wire being tapped is penetrated and then clamps down on the pierced section of wire to seal it and eliminate any flexing or tension at the pierce point. And they're easier to put on than a scotchlock, to boot. Absolutely no suckage with a Posi-tap.
