I have a squeak in my dash on the driver side some where. i cant find it to save my life. it only shows up over very small bumps temp does not seem to make a different. i will say it sounds like its coming from the front corner driver side of the dash.

i hope to get someone that has had something similar that can help but i feel as if this might just be s shot in the dark.....

This came up quite a while ago. Something about a pinch seam/spot weld in the body sheetmetal in the A-piller windshield area (behind the dash). Found the TSB, TSB 23-19-00

Well, I hope someone may have run into this one. Its been a problem for about 6 years now, and I just cant run it down.

I am getting a wobble noise (that some might describe as a squeak). At first I thought is was coming from the right front. But my passengers would tell me its coming from the drivers side. When I lean to the left and forward, I finally decided that it is coming from the center, probably either under the dash, or just in front of the firewall.

well i have confirmed that its not that problem. even after the test it says to do i laid the dash back and removed the body sealer and it was a nice clean 1/4 inch gap. i did drive my chisel down there a little to give some more room but the squeak is still there... . GRRRRRRR lol

i went nuts on this one also and it took me a year to figure mine out. sound travels. i tried everything under dash and on firewall. the "a" pillar squeak didn't seem to fit my sound from a stand point of where it was coming from. my wife got into positions that could have got us arrested trying to track exactly where it was coming from. best estimate was "somewhere here in dash by center consul and gas peddle. don't know why but i was under the truck and discovered that way up on the linkage for the xfr case it was completely dry. i put some white lithium grease by hand on the linkage joints and worked the lever back and forth. haven't heard the squeak since. for me that was it. you might try it. it is frustrating.

lol the picture you painted it pretty funny. i also found that noise after 7 years and 130k of driving the truck. while that is a great clue its still not mine, i re lubed that today.

i tell you what that a pillar repair is a pain let me be the first to say that. i am still hunting. i also had my steering column out today and lubed all of that.

this thing might just get the best of me... .

after riding around for a bit after all the great ideas, maybe the term squeak is not the right term. more like birds that cant whistle that well

it is frustrating. some of the really old posts had determined that theirs was due to the windshield trim (lower plastic that has plastic screws). just trying to remember what everyone was going thru and making suggestions.

Once when I had what sounded like a bad dash squeak ended up being the plastic piece at the base of the windshield under the wipers was loose. Tightening it did the trick, the little plastic retainers work their way loose over time.

If you have more of a ticking "tink tink tink" noise it's most likely the pinch welds as mentioned, that's more of a pain to deal with. There is a TSB on it, I would do a search for the word Tick in the 2nd Gen forums.

i will check that out. my dash is cracked and i put the genos dash cover on it and it looks great but could it be to the point that thing or the dash under is making noise... . although i did have this squeak at one time before and it just went away on its own and that was before my dash cracked..... all i know is i am ready to take the dash out and just not have one at all. LOL

i wonder if anyone makes a custom dash for these trucks. maybe something tht looks like it goes in a race car but its also functional. that would be cool to have a full set of auto meter gauges and a metal dash in there that would hold the passenger air bag radio A/C controls and so on... .

I have the same issue, I have grown to get used to it. Also, I can't remember where I read it that it is just the parts of the dash rubbing together or rubbing with the frame. Not much that I think can really be done except live with it.

Had that identical problem and the resolution for me was to replace the gearshift bushings, part numbers 3467800 & 357533. WeRMopar has them for about $30 - both.
Like others I couldn't find this squeak but finally gave in and took it to my dealer. He isolated it by putting pressure on the shifter (automatic) and viola the squeak stopped over the small bumps.
I'll bet using some good grease would do the trick as well. Sorry I can't give you the exact location but if you get under the pickup and have someone move the shifter you should be able to see where the bushing and grommet are located.
Hope this works for you as well,
Tom

My squeek was also the gear shift linkage under the truck. I spray the linkage with silicon lubricant every few months and it goes/stays away.

yea i have oiled the shifter linkages to death. i will try the new bushings but i think its a no go. it will be next week before i have time to order them.

I havent had a chance to look at the shifter linkage yet on my truck. But, I just remembered that I can hear the rattle/wobble/squeak just going slow down a neighborhood street. If I put it into neutral and just coast, it still makes the noise. However, I dont hear it if I try to jump up and down on the front bumper. Does this sound like the same issue you are having ?

That is exactly what I had. Bit more information, if I hit a bump square no sound but if either the left or right front wheel hit a small bump then I got the squeak. The parts I listed earlier fixed it. One thing I just found out from the dealer today is that there are 2 grommets on the other (looked like passenger) side of the linkage from the diagram on the paper he had. So if you replace the grommet and bushing on one side you might as well replace the 2 grommets on the other while it's apart.

Try putting downward or forward/aft pressure on the auto transmission stalk when trying to isolate the squeak. In mine that stopped the squeak and that's how the service fellow determined it was the bushing/grommets.

Good luck,

Tom

Addition: Should have also mentioned that the squeak did not occur when we had rain (rare occasion). Should have realized it was outside the cab from that but it sounded so much like it was in the interior and everywhere I listened#@$%!

Just a thought but have you ever dropped or moved you fuel tank? I looked for a very annoying squeak for over a year. Couldn't be sure where it came from. Looked at my maintenance log when I replaced a fuel sending unit and thought I'd take a look at the tank position. Sure enough moving the tank fully forward did the trick. Part of the tank was rubbing on the rear cab panel and sending noise everywhere.
