RV gravel drive - how to?

You guys that truly overloaded your dually with stock tires that changed to dual 19. 5s... . Was it worth it???

I'm in the process of having some steel wheels made for both the SRW and the DRW trucks for 19. 5" for the following reason... .

1 - my F550 get 100k miles on recaps for the rear at about 110 each... . and 90K miles on Michelin fronts at something like 229 each... .

2 - the saftey factor is almost 2 to 1 over the stock 17" tires...

3 - you can go anywhere, that's anywhere, any small town and buy a 19. 5 but in 375K miles with the F550 we've never had a blow out... . had one damaged from junk in the road.....

4 - yep they ride hard.....

5 - all my trucks are work trucks... I don't care for fancy wheels that are 275 to 325 each and couldn't find some common sense steel wheels so I had them made by a vendor I found that does that... .

That's how I feel... BTW I have 3 dually's and 1 trailer with 8 tires and wheels... so I need at least 26 or so... the trailer has the same bolt circle and hub diameter but its a 16" commerical...

I used to tow a 40' gooseneck(3-4 times a month) with my 04'. The stock tires were cracking badly and had very little tread left a 26K. Bought rickson steel 19. 5's and now at 50K you can even tell any wear. I also went to a 265/70 to bring down the rpm at highway speeds. The way they're wearing now, I should easily get 150K out of them. (As soon as the 07. 5 comes in, aluminum 19. 5s are goin on ;) )

Let me know when the steel wheels are coming off, I might be interested in them, assuming I don't need a body lift to make them fit, and if the bolt pattern is the same.

Sorry but the steels are staying on the 04'. The 07. 5' will never see what a plow even looks like :-laf

Sweeeett! Nice truck!

I agree nice truck. :) Did you need to raise it to get those wheels and tires under there. See sig below but I am considering this combo also but I don't want to have to put a lift of any kind in... .

No lift, just air bags in the rear. Even with the 9' blade off the front and about 4-5 thousand pounds of salt/sand in the bed she's as stable as ever. Loaded like this with stock wheels and tires it was a little scarry, the fronts were lookin like lo pro's @80psi

I think it was definitely worth it. They sure make the ride a heck of a lot more stable. No matter what you are towing.

cost ?

yes it is worth it

why ,overload a stock tire drive way to fast and blow it out (we all do it )

cost of fender 1200. 00

cost of box side ?

cost of life ???????

cost to have 6 friends to stand by you ????????

do it its worth it !

Wow, and I thought I had plenty of capacity with my load range E tires. Too bad they don't have a real mud terrain tire.

Not that it matters. Way over my budget, though I would like to do it someday.

I've got a set of wheels, but still need tires. Anybody know where I can find a set (6) of 225/70's reasonable? What are your thoughts on recaps vs new?

I don't like the small holes in the wheel cuz it looks bad and brakes would probably run hotter. which can wear out brakes quicker. not to mention you are adding all that weight to the tires which sucks up power and mpg. I went from a heavy wieght 33" tire on my jeep with 4. 10s to a lighter 33" with the 4. 10's and on my way home got a ticket cuz I was driving by what I was seeing out the windshield not paying attention my gauges and didn't realize I don't have to be on the accelerater as hard as I did with the heavy tire. I was used to 95% throttle at 55 and I was like 80% throttle when I got clocked at 80 something on the same roads.
