hehe, I think that most of you have figured out by now that some of the things I post are just toget you to scratch your head and wonder, WTF?!

Sometimes it takes a little missinformation to get the truth.

Just a Tease

Marco: you gave us some bits of info about some 'urban legends' and shot down some misinformation that is thought to be correct. So...

How about putting on your 'instructor' hat or 'Professor' hat and filling in some of the blanks you are telling us about?

This is after all supposed to be an information thread... :)

I would like to know the answers [as much as possible] to all those questions and gaps in knowledge you posed.

Since I can barely tell the difference between a soldering iron and a screwdriver, keep it simple if you can.

A full cup of coffee, my learning hat firmly clamped on, OK, I'm ready: go for it! :D :D

Diesel Freak, It's great to have a sense of humor, but miss information is not what you use to help your friends :( . This thread started out "great" with some good information that was helping everyone understand more about the VP44, lets not take it to the darkside. I know that you were just having fun but please do that on the "oil" threads

:D

So does any one know if you can change the eeprom to do the same thing as a PSD does in cold weather(the engine revs up if the ecm sees that its to cold for to long then when it warms up it revs down) Im not talking about the ecm reflash that cuts out 3 cylinders (I can hear it now "hey man whats wrong with your truck?")any one have any thoughts on this if it can be done?

I was just hoping once and for all to get a straight answer form Marco. I gues that will not happen, and I will have to buy a MAD ECM and R. E. it. Oo.

I just ordered the CD . . Takes a week.

Marco,

If you want to help. . then help.

If everyone is wrong then tell them what's right. Nobody here is gonna get into the business of building ECMs. We want to know about fuel pumps.

I want to know more about the construction of the pump. Does anyone have an exploded diagram? I'd like to know if there is a VP style pump for a bigger engine?

anyone????

Later,

Mark

VP44

I agree with Pit Bull. I, like everyone else, would like to know more about the VP44, but also more about the truck itself and the cummins engine. Why play games with misinformation when the purpose of the TDR is to help your fellow members. Nuff said!

VP pics

First of, I don't want to be taken as then one who knows everything! I still have several things to understand myself. But it's also true that I know a few things that other's seem to ignore or misinterpret.

Let's try to find out how things work in reality... .

I have a complete VP-44 dismanteld laying arround in my shop.

I'll try to post a few pics of the most important parts of the VP tomorrow.

MK. I don't want to say that the disc ain't worth it's money, but they don't tell too much about the little "secrets" that are hidden within the VP.

A pic will be much better to understand how the VP works.

Marco

Marco,

I was talking to a fella from cummins at May Madness and he was telling me that even if the ECM can be 'adjusted' to allow 4000+ rpm that the pum hed would be near disintegration.

I'd like to see how it works to see if it could be strengthened on the top side.

Marco, your being modest!;) Teach us Master Yoda!:D

MK,

The VP-44 can be found in several European engines.

Ford, Audi, Peugeot, Citroen... Just to mention a few.

Those engines are smaller displacement than the CTD

(1. 5-2. 5L). Redline in those engine is normally arround 4500-4800

RPM.

Looks like the VP-44 CAN take those RPM's without problems.

TXDK. Me NO Master Joda. Me stupid wanting to share knowledge. Seems like someone wants to listen... .

Marco,

I have wanted to listen to you more ecer since that thread you had about re-programing the chip in the ECM, I'm just too dumb to figure this stuff out.

What are the pop-off pressures and fuel flow ratings??

If you pump less fuel it's easy to do it faster. I did some calculations... at 50psi boost and 17:1 CR there's 1100psi of pressure in the cylinder about the time injection happens. depending on timing before TDC this is greatly reduced, but it's some interesting figures.

and if each cylinder gets 30cc in a smaller engine and we get 50 or 70cc it would be a huge difference in hydrolic requirements.
