Cleaning the Engine

I just recently purchased a pyro gauge and boost gauge.

(ISSpro)

I did a search on the thermo install but didn't find the answer to my question.

The question is the thermo couple is a 1/4" and it came with what looks like a 3/8 npt adapter. Do I drill and tap for the 3/8 and use the adapter or just drill and tap for the thermo couple and thread that directly into the manifold ?

Also where is everyone picking up boost at ?

Sorry if this has already been answered before.

cwarner on my 91 the 1/4" thermo couple is mountedinto the exhaust housing on the front half pre turbo gives more accurate readings, I took my boost from the intake by way of a PDR Turbo boost gauge fitting which replaces one of the bolts in the intake . bill

ON the driver side of engine between the IAT sensor and the MAP sensor there is a silver color square drive plug in the manifold. I made up an adapter with a couple of pipe bushings and got down to the size outlet i needed (1/8) for my SPA digital. I think its a Bousch pressure sensor. I installed the fittings in the manifold where the plug used to be and the sensor into the fitting. It was pretty easy. I think I was able to get down from 3/4 to 1/8 in only two fittings.

3/8?

A 3/8-inch NPT fitting sure sounds big. I'd be afraid to drill a hole that big in my manifold.

Mine came with a 1/8-inch npt fitting. In that fitting was something like a tubing coupler. After the fitting is installed in the manifold, the t-couple is slid in and the top nut "crimps" down on the t-couple to hold in in place and seal it up.

You should be able to fit a 1/4-inch t-couple in an 1/8-inch NPT fitting (1/4 at the largest). I'd be real careful about drilling and tapping for 3/8.

You can't drill it out smaller later!
