I would like to see some more members fess' up about their Dr P. experiances. We do have more don't we?

Prior to getting involved with the B5. 9, I had been exposed to a good number of diesel applications. However, I never even thought about Bombing. I did spend a good deal of time cussing some gutless wonders though. Anyway, even after lurking in the background for some time, when I finally shelled out my $35, I still had trouble understanding some of these relationships we hash out everyday. Hence, I asked the same questions we see all the time. The answers are always there in the archieves. Sometimes that is just not enough to go on.

There are always going to be folks stung because they just don't know the TDR exists. For new members though, before you spend your hard earned bucks, try to hookup with someone on a one on one basis if you can't get what you need off the screen. Lord knows, we will help you spend that cash (correctly).

One other point. Don't try too hard to pinch the pennies. Get in on the group purchases. Watch for the monthly specials. If you can't do it right, don't do it at all.

I agree Tom... don't hold back. If you have something to say, just say it. You can't hold all that stuff in! lol.

P. S. Keep up the good work...

wow, 1300 hits on this thread

A lot of people viewing this thread, but only 21 posts? I can see that for a subject this volatile, some people , for various reasons, believe it better to not say anything. That's smart, I suppose. But there's still quite a few replies on here from many friends whose opinions and judgement I trust.

Anyway, no reply as of now, from Dr. Barry Sadler, owner of Dr. Performance, or any of his employees. No surprise there. Even if he (or whoever is unfortunate enough to work for him) had posting priveleges, he doesn't have a leg to stand on.

Anybody reading this, that has some kind of contact with him? Would you please be kind enough to print it out and pass it on to him?

Having made a fortune by fleecing light duty diesel truck owners, I doubt he bothers himself with such things as computers and the internet these days.

OOOOOOOUCH!

Glad I don't own any Dr. P's stuff.

You guys need to really let it out is't not good to hold back all that hate. :D  :D

Tom,

I cannot agree with you more. Ever since Doug and I started ADT, we have based our business on treating our customers with honesty and respect. This has since gained us a great customer base and even more great friends than we could possibly imagine.

Sure there are many occasions when a new customer calls who is unfamiliar with the products available, and it would be easy to take advantage of them and sell them a set of gauges for lets say,, $1500, and claim that just by adding these gauges, they will increase their horsepower by 75. Like I said before, how can someone like this, sleep at night...

masters of inflated advertising

:D :D :D

I Love this statement Tom...

You always know just the right thing to say...

Thanks, Andy :D ... ... DarrellB, no hate here, just disgust, and apprehension at the thought of someone new to the Cummins diesel world, getting gypped by the Dr. P types. No words of hate being hurled here, though that would be easy to do. :D

What I'm after is a truck versus truck showdown, mine against theirs.

I considered drag racing, or pulling, then decided that driver error (mine or theirs) introduced too many variables.

I wonder if a group of us could put our money together, and take out a full page ad in the TDR magazine, simply warning the buyer to beware, and giving a list of vendors' names and numbers to contact if they need further clarification? This is just an idea off the top of my head. I suppose someone could shoot holes in that idea.

I don't wish to antagonize Mr. Patton or the staff of the TDR, by starting a war... but something should be done about false advertising. The magazine reaches many people who don't or can't access the forums online... .

Good point. . If the other half of the membership that don't participate here and just go on what is in the magazine, they are loosing out on the other perspectives. I never did care for the way that Dr. P was pushed in the mag, but thats my problem. A few issues back they had some 2 page "technical" write, if you can call it that, showing a pump install at a show and some other BS. Some legitimate smaller companies aren't in the mag, and thats sad, they have good products to offer.

There is a sad sad reality to face in the real world. Most Dodge Ram CTD owner/operators have not heard of TDR. There are also many diesel performance shops that are sold on the marketing, but without continuing education such as TDR how can they know better products exist?

I purchased my 97 in spring 2000. I had never heard of TDR. Luckily a co-worker knew of TDR and got me started on the website. I briefly joined up with an outstanding group of Rammers called <a href=http://www.nwbombers.com/ target=_blank>North West BOMBERS</a> before moving from Seattle to upper Minnesota. A very active NWBomber member and former TDR member was the main reason I joined. The arms open reception from the other NWBers sealed my fate.

Here, I had a local member notice my location and contacted me to say hi! He's my AMSOIL dealer now.

I believe two 2 very well know and respected TDR members used to be part of a well advertised shop but now have businesses of their own. That has to tell you something.

Sadly, a well respected diesel shop in the Puget Sound region still handles banksrupting products and trany killer pressure devices. The RV market is still a relatively uneducated market to fleece.

The local (to me) diesel performance shop handles the same handles banksrupting products and trany killer pressure devices. Fortunately, this guy knows diesels very well and both auto and manual transmissions. I hope to get him to try better <em>Billed and Harry'd</em> product lines.

Don't feel alone, Cummins owners. My neighbor has a 97 Ford PSD. He has been told some whoppers by vendors, too.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. A lot of knowledge is a BOMBing thing?

My thoughts and opinions

Smoker, (on edit, oops, this got put ahead of your question on the 2nd page)I only know of one that was there pulling, there may have been more. The one I know of, is a black quad cab long bed 4x4, has the Dr. P emblem on both doors. I think it's a 12 valve, didn't look at it close. He was also at Scheid Diesel Extravaganza, and pulled there, too. He seemed like a nice enough fellow, hope he learned a few things from the vendors displays at Scheid. :D He was the short guy walking around looking like this:

It's strictly a coincidence, and had no connection to the pulls in Carlisle, but there is a Dr. Performance franchise owned by an Everett Smith, in Carlisle. His brother (I think) was there at the pulls, and spent quite a bit of time telling Dan Scheid (of Scheid Diesel) all of his power theories, I wish I could have heard it, for the life of me, I don't see how poor Dan managed to keep a straight face through the whole thing, let alone kept his mouth shut. Think about it. Here was this abrasive individual, with a combative attitude, representing a little shop in the middle of nowhere, presuming to tell the owner of Scheid Diesel, 3 huge diesel service shops in Indiana & Illinois, what he knew about diesel performance. (probably fit in a nutshell :D ). Look at and listen to the two of them there, get a look at the shops each owns, and it would be easy for anyone to figure out pretty quick which guy is the one who knows his stuff. Also, which one would you want to do business with? An easy going good 'ol boy from Indiana, whose hundreds of employees and friends all think he hung the moon, or a sour-faced hard-bitten redneck with an elephant mouth over-riding his butterfly brain?

It ain't about trucks, diesels, pulling , or any of that. It's about doing the right thing by your fellow man. That's the bottom line.

Hey Briar,

Which trucks at Carlisle were the Dr. Perf trucks. I haven't watched the video in a while but I think I'll pull it back out to see how these "monster horsepower Dr. Perf trucks" pulled down the track. I don't quite think any of them pulled as far as the homegrown pullers pulled. I've got quite a bit of HP, but I do not have $2500 dollars worth of parts. I am a firm believer that Dr. Perf is full of it too.

Lil' Dog - Robert is always looking for content for the magazine. The only reason you haven't seen a particular company in the magazine is because they haven't submitted anything. He is very supportive of small companies. He will print press releases from any vendor of products for our trucks as long as they are descriptive enough (he's received some that are only two lines long and that's not enough to print) and well written - whether they are an advertiser or not. So if you know of any vendors that want to get info into the magazine tell them to send it in!

That sounds good to me... those of you with small local diesel service shops, that aren't advertising in the TDR, why not take them a copy of the magazine, and show them? They might be interested.

Smoker, check at the end of previous page for my reply to your post. Sorry it ended up on the wrong page.

Just curious to know exactly what degree Dr. Barry Sadler has? Does he have a background in some type of engineering or did he purchase his doctorate degree from a mail order house? From what I have heard from many people, Dr. Performance is really good a one thing. He is good at running his mouth off about what he thinks he knows. I don't know about you, but as I've become more educated (only a master degree here, no PHD) I come to the realization that I don't know as much as I though I did when I started college. Where is the humility??? I certainly do NOT expect this type of behavior from a doctor.

Also, I had called Dr. Performance some time ago when I considered bombing my truck. Their literature said how much gains in hp/torque I would get, but said nothing about how they achieve this. Needless to say, I was NOT impressed and I never ordered anything from them. I don't have any respect for people who run their mouths off and I certainly DO NOT intend to buy their products.

Makes you wonder when vast majority of the folks on this board has the same low opinion of the person/company. Where is the commone denominator????

My 2 cents. .

Charles

His prices seem fair $4000 dollars for 120 hp for you guys. $4500 for 120hp on the D-Max and the same for the ford. How is that clown in business? Couldn't you Dodge guys do more than that for under $1000? BD has a box for the GM coming out that gives it 100hp for under $1000. They don't tell you about the parts or anything about it except price and hp numbers.

Charles, I would hazard a guess that he's a proctologist. :D

fjdecampo, yes, most fueling boxes available for the Cummins are priced between $475 - 750, and one or two "ultimate" boxes with digital boost & EGT gauges built in, priced around $1100-1200. All of these boxes will give you about 120-130 HP. All can be installed in a half hour or so. No mystery here, a simple phone call to any of the vendors selling these boxes, they'll tell you everything you need to know.

Dr. P tells you nothing.

Finally read the add....

Steve St. Good point, and I feel a little better about the Mag, but still this string of BS from Dr. P about warrenty is misleading and shouldn't be claimed in (I am gonna say) our magazine. We have had whole issues dedicated to the coverage of Warrenty with the infamous "You are your own warrenty if you modify... ... . " We, all in this thread anyway, do have some genuine concerns for the readership of the magazine and how its presented.

BTW, just got my mag on Friday. Sheesh, what a crock. . IMO. It's the same bull that "a shop" uses in Calgary, telling guys that they are installing 8. 3 injectors and will give you some vette smokin 1 ton, oh ya not a problem for warrenty. .. . How they stay in business just blows my mind...
