reputable vendors

i have followed this thread with interest. i am a relative "newbie", with only 4+ months with my new toy. without TDR, i, too, could have fallen prey to some of the hype. i did send for info from banks--didn't buy, though. found tdr after that, and realized i could probably accomplish more with less $$. thanx to vendors like andy and doug (already small purchase from doug) and bill k, and the tdr members' respect for them, (and others), i feel like i can make informed purchases from reputable folks. after my gauges, i'll be looking for more power and transmission upgrade. i know who i'll be calling! THANX GUYS!

this really has nothing to do with Dr P. P.

but I noticed a post the other day from a guy that was on his second post on the TDR ever. he had all the gimicks, i couldnt believe what he had and it was all on there because of BD telling him to put it on.

he was towing a trailer and built the truck for it. he had DDII's or III's, HX40, PE COMP, Bill K's stuff, and more. all to tow a trailer with. and he was only on his second post here. the ol' Boy had 600HP to yank 5'r around with. :D

that goes to show you how many people dont read and participate here. luckily he fell into the arms of a GOOD Vendor. :D

imagine what he could have spent at a different one.

I thought I'd chime in on this, since I fell into the newbie, didn't know any better category. I have an 2001. 5 ETH with Phase II, fortunately, I got mine at half price but I now realize even that is too much. My before and after dyno numbers were 206 and 286.

I was expecting 100hp as advertised, I guess that figure only applies to the early 24 valve motors. They said most gain 70-75, so I should be happy. I was told the package included injectors and a remapped ecm for improved timing.

I was also told I didn't need gauges, now I'm concerned because I've since read how ETHs can run hot to begin with. I'll be adding gauges soon. I tried adding a boost module and it caused a big drop in performance and a high rpm stumble. Possibly a bad module? Or is it something relating to the ecm change (if there was a change at all)?

I'd like more power and I'm planning on adding a EZ or VA box. I hope it works with what's been done to my engine. What's my point? I've paid too much, taken more risks (no gauges), and I've stepped outside the upgrade norm, so I really don't know what will work with what I have.

Dave-

If you get a dealer reflash, do you lose your Sgt. Barry Sadler software in the ECM?

I asked the technician about losing the file due to a reflash or a disconnected battery. Since its saved in the ECM, power loss is not a problem. He said there are five openings for reflashes in the ECM and they use one. He said they can't over-ride existing files, they can just enter new ones. Maybe a dealer can write over it, I'm not sure. Take all this with a grain of salt, it might be totally incorrect but its what I was told by the tech.

Supposedly, I wouldn't lose the file but I would have to go back to the doctor to have it reset to their file.

A couple of TDR issues ago, the doctor had an advertisement referencing ECM changes with big- time HP gains with no add-on boxes. If this is true, how is he getting around the 20 or 21 psi boost limit?

Dave:

With Dr. P or anyone associated with them telling you

"you didn't need gauges" that should tell anyone reading

this thread just how ignorant they (Dr. P) and their

associates are!

So isn't this the same thing as Mark from TST did, and then got in big trouble for it? If so how can this joker do it?

Keep things sane

A very interesting and hot topic. Leave the character bashing to private e-mail. It may color the post but detracts from the contnent and discussion thread. If the comments about product

performance or lack of performance can be documented then carry on the discussion. If we are debating the warranty claims, then the folks at TDR have an obligation to the members to provide some advertising truth as this type of discussion has been at the forefront before.

I applaude the TDR members for taking the time to inform the other members of their problems re: warranty or sevice as we are a small number of consumers in a very large vehicle market.

I look forward to a response from Dr. P but if I were him, the character bashing would only add to the resistance on commenting or participating.

Maybe we should plan and schedule a mass testing of all the performance enhancement units on a stock truck over a few weeks. Publish the dyno numbers and let us all review them.

We are motivated by many issues when we buy. Color, slick design, blinking lights, new technology and product claims. Why do we have so many vehicle manufactures, models, colors? Why did I buy the red Dodge instead of the red Chev? Personal choice/experience? Marketing hype? Brand loyality ???

Let the showndown or showup happen. We stand more of a chance if we keep things factual and civil, personal opinions not withstanding.

Sorry for the long append and happy bombing:D

canblue, you're welcome to your opinion. No undeserved character bashing going on here, as far as I'm concerned. It takes a lot, I repeat, a LOT, to get me to say something bad about anyone. Ask anyone in the TDR that knows me. Probably isn't a state in the U. S. , and even Canada, that doesn't have at least one TDR member who I count as a personal friend. :D Not bragging, mind you, just counting my blessings. But deceitful and misleading advertising aimed at gypping my fellow Cummins Ram owners out of their hard-earned cash , that I cannot and will not tolerate. I take that personal, just as I would if someone took a swing at a buddy, right in front of me. Feelings always run high on an issue such as this.

There are many legitimate and honest vendors in our diesel world that share my concerns about this. Some have voiced those concerns and their support, in here, others have emailed me privately, and still others know that I already know how they feel about the issue, as we've talked about it before.

canblue:

I concur and support everything Tom (Briar Hopper) has

said on this issue! I know him personally and like he said

"it takes ALOT to get him to say something" on issues like

this. But knowing Tom like I do, I also know he is honest

and straightforward and if that bothers some people;... .

well... . so be it!!

I don't see it as "undeserved character bashing" only a

warning to the TDR members of "buyer beware!!"

Personally, I talked to these people a LONG time ago

and they treated me like s*** over the phone. I have

since found vendors that are EXCELLENT, like "Scheid

Diesel" and TST Products to name two. You can look

at my signature for others.

IMO I am glad that "Briar Hopper" came forward and

said what he did! He just said what alot of the other

members were thinking. And I am proud to say that

Tom (Briar Hopper) is a very good friend of mine and

ALOT of other TDR members!

Good job Tom!

Thanks, John, I appreciate the kind words as always. For once, I'm at a loss for words here! :D It's the best part about the TDR, to me, the friendships, not the trucks. The trucks (and the need for speed :D ) are a foundation, a common ground, that's all...

MGM, us PC? Only when we're forced to be . Sometimes you pull punches in order to hang onto a job, a friendship, or a membership in an organization.

Kinda reminds me of this little sticker I had on my helmet, back when I had my Harley... "Don't let that elephant mouth of yours write a check your butterfly @$$ can't cash ! " :D :D :D

PC - not always

I came, I read, I commented.

Let's get on to where the rubber meets the road. :D

TDR. A good place to visit and find friends. :)

Briar, You forgot me in Old Mexico!! Oh That's right I moved back to the USA!!!

Anyway does anyone remember the nice new Dodge Ctd at May Maddness on DD's Dyno That had a DP stageII setup. His Performance #'s were beaten by some Stock #'s if I recall. Brett (edge) was there and tossed on a Goodie or too and the gentelman drove home much happier with his Truck!

Count me in on the ShowDown!!!!! :D
