I guess I will call back down to the dealership and have one coming my way. They said it will be Feb. when I get it. Was wondering how all you guys like your Gen 3 trucks? Got rid of my 24V and my bombed up 12V earlier this year. Kind of regret the 12V, spent $7K in thte past year redoing everything and then sold it to a family member.

But I will most likely stick with a regular cab 3/4ton 4x4 SLT 6spd. , loaded out with power adjustable pedals, beer window, etc... didn't want to opt for a Laramie. How are you guys with regular cabs liking them?

I love my 3rd gen truck. I love the room, the power, the size, and did I mention the power :-laf I have a six speed (NV5600) and I love it. I do wish the truck was louder though. I test drove a bunch of 02's and loved the sound, but the rest of the truck made up for the lack of music

Naw - the 6 speed now is a G56. A Mercedes transmission made in Brazil and used in med duty trucks in Europe. Also sits behind a dual mass flywheel.

There have been rumors that some of the plastic gears inside of it aren't holding up, but these are unfounded. :-laf

Seriously it appears to be a good transmission. There is some doubts about the dual mass flywheel - mainly because of GM and Ford experiences with them. They are holding up so far.

The only real complaint from some G56 owners is that the OD gear is shorter. Thus a G56 with 3. 73s is like a NV5600 with 4. 10s.

Buy it - you'll like it!

Thats actually good for me, I wanted 4. 10's and I can't get them with a 6spd. , I was going to put taller tires on it anyways so I guess it will end up working out after all.

love my 6 speed. I would reccomend getting the 3500. you get more legal payload plus it doesn't really cost any more than a 2500.

Yeah, well I don't want a dually. I tried to get a single tire 1 ton, but the saleman said he couldn't get me one. I know he isn't lying to me, I bought my last 3 new trucks from him. I can get a single tire in a 4 door, but not a regular cab.

I love my NV5600 for towing, and Hate for city drive. The only transmission behind my Cummins will be a Manual or untill my knees go bad.

Well, I just got back from the dealership and I went ahead and ordered it. They only wanted $300 for now, pay the balance when it comes in.

Love my regular cab. I don't know why anyone would want an irregular cab... ;)

OK, if you needed an all purpose truck, a quad or king cab would be understandable. I'm lucky I guess in that I only need to use my truck for truck things.

I myself don't even "need" a truck, I just love 'em, "Cummins only" need apply. I like the quad cab for my 130lb french mastiff (50lbs is head), better back there than on my lap!!

There is quite a bit of room behind the seats in the reg cab, but the doors are huge. It's hard to get in and out of the cab in a parking lot unless the space is wide. It would be nice to have small back doors like the Ford F150 for access.

I have to have a long bed and a Quad cab long bed is too l-o-n-g to fit in my garage, so my choice was a reg cab long bed. It works for me.

love every thing about my 05 but my g56 had a slight leak at 24k which dealer fixed, now a slight roughness when shifting. a little cold here in boise lately. OH ssorry leak was in the shift tower.

I moved from a 12v NV4500 to my G56. The G56 has alot tighter feel. I've only driven a NV5600 a few times. Can't really comment on differences between the two. The G56 is geared low. I don't complain because it helps when towing. Which is why I bought the Cummins to begin with.

I only have a few thousand miles on my G56 and I'm not sure what to think so far. It makes a lot of noise in 3rd and 5th, and I'm not happy with the highway RPM's. I would buy another one over an auto though.

I drove a Megacab 4wd with the G56. I liked the transmission. The pattern seemed tighter to me, but the gears shifted a lot easier. I would definitely buy a G56 without hesitation.

I prefer the gearing on the G56. I wish I had 4. 10's on my truck. I can't leave anything alone, so I know my next truck will have the gearing for larger tires.

I like the G56 just fine but I can't tell you how many times I would be going down the road and absent mindedly shift out of 6th looking for something higher.

I'm considering ordering an '06 reg. cab w/G-56 and am following these observations. I drove a friends' 3500 LWB 5600 today and it certainly seems stout but that wheelbase is something to be considered. It's only the wife and me and all that extra wheelbase is not needed. I want to mount my popup camper on this one but am concerned about reports of a "no slide in camper" statement in some owner's manuals.
