I am not pro Toyota, they probably make a decent truck though, but the hemi is the just about the weakest gas engine you can get right now in a pickup, they are way over rated by the factory, they usually dyno around 260hp at the wheels. I hope Dodge comes out with a decent gas engine at some point I like the rest of the HD truck.
Fact Toyoda within 3 years will be selling 3/4 and 1 ton trucks with CAT diesels. Yea I know you think this guy is a bsing us. Sorry this is a fact. A little hint NASCAR what cars have CAT on the hoods.
Hows that a fact? Its merely speculation at this point, and from what I hear, CAT doesnt have an engine for a 3/4-1ton truck, or even that theyre interested. You cant assume that because CAT sponsors a Toyota car in NASCAR that there will be a CAT in the Tundra. Heres a FACT for ya, CAT was sponsoring a Dodge in NASCAR before the Toyota, wheres the CAT in Dodges?? There isnt one...
It's smaller engines are mostly CAT badged Perkins motors.
I don't know what engine-drivetrain combination Chevy is puting in their 1/2 tons to claim 22 MPG, but I doubt it will do what my truck will do in any circumstance.
Not sure of the year, about a 04 maybe? But me and my brother took his 1/2ton Silverado Z71 to CO a few weeks back and his best MPG was 23, hand calculated for a few tanks across eastern CO and KS. Surprised the heck out of me, though normally he gets 15ish here around STL. For a gas truck I'd go Chevy all the way, but for real power, Cummins, and whatever it goes in...
Oh, and his has the 5. 3 V8 auto transmission... .
Okay, real world twing experience just in, my business partner (07 Tundra 4x4, 5. 7 V8, SB) just towed a twenty foot trailer with a boat about 6k, he said he was losing speed going uphill. He had to downshift just to maintain like 55mph, his excuse was the extra drag and wind resistance. I towed a trailer with 4 quads and loaded with a bunch of gear and tools etc. up the same grade, it probably only weighed around 4k but I couldn't even feel it.
