ok if it disables some diagnostic tables what are they and why?

i have been pondering this subject for a while also, and i have come to the conclusion that if one was to find the male and female connects (6 pin,i believe) that are on the tps, then you could rig up a high idle circuit easily with some parts from radio shack. by stealing some of the reference voltage to make it appear the tps has moved to an off idle voltage = to 1200rpms or so.

anyone know where I can get these connecters?

I heard that you can order those connectors from DC. (discovered while looking for a steering column harness)

Maybe I can get Willy's old steering harness for our prototype (re the SPA cooldown project)??

do you mean online somewhere or at the dealer counter.

I have the 6-pin male & female connectors, now all I gotta do is build the crazy thing. I am basically going to create a hand-operated throttle, so I can vary the idle and use it as a constant-throttle cruise control. What I really want to do, is make it so it is automatically shut down if your foot touches the brake. Any one know how to do that? Electronics guys, this is one for you!

that would be worth paying $200 for #ad

I just dont think $200 is worth it for a high idler.

when I can build my own for ($13. 98 x 2 + another $10 at radio shack) =$37. 96

Evan, how about a pulse activated latching relay? Then you just use a momentary switch for on and another for off ( the brake pedal)?

If you were really slick with it you could just tap into the cruise circuit and use all of it's inputs. You would have a rheostat or something to control the amount of throttle. This would give you access to the buttons on the steering wheel.

I think there is a box out there that does just that but it is more $$

Mike, I like that idea of a pulse-activated latching relay. So how do those things work? Do I need 2 separate switches, one for on, and another for off? I am going to go out to my shop and measure the parameters of the APPS so I can figure out what kind of rheostat to use. This thing should be pretty easy to build.

You can 'latch' a standard relay in the 'ON' position by jumping the output pin to the '+' side of the coil. Add a normally open momentary switched 12v to that same '+'. When you touch the button, the relay will pull in and that will keep the 12v on the coil. You can lift your finger off the momentary button and the relay will not open.

I would put a normally closed momentary in the same loop as an off button.

Now, to provide a 'safety' to 'kill' (i. e. . 'open') the relay when the brake lights go on, use that switch on the brake lever (I think it grounds when you brake) to power another normally closed relay or more exotic circuit to interupt the first relay's control loop.

The scary part is making sure that any electronic failure to the brake circuit will cause your gadget to loose power. That is why you can't tell a cop your cruise control was stuck, as his seeing your brakes lights pretty much confirms that the cruise control is working just fine (i. e. off).

Be careful in the TPS circuit. First for 'runaway' risk. Second, the computers will try to catch you up to no good and will blow all kinds of faults. Be sure that any engine shutdown is with the normal 'at rest' TPS value.

Good luck, I am eager to see somebody do this at a reasonable price or just to share the ideas!
