Depressing the throttle I do not notice anything. Removing foot off the throttle, the last little bit right before it reaches 0% sticks for a moment. Its like it catches on something, then the return spring pulls it past and it closes. As you slowly lift off with your foot you can feel it even. Depending on conditions, makes for a very jerky ride when slowing down.

Started this weekend Sat/Sun. Only thing changed on truck is I changed the oil and the filter. I am thinking the filter is on the other side of the engine, and not suspecting the Amsoil either.

I have checked the throttle cable where it attaches by the TPS. Seems OK. Its looks like the newer cable. The cable that comes out of the cable housing is wrapped with the plastic sheath. I believe this is the newer, design, correct?

Any ideas?

Mr Bones, Pull the cable off the pump and check for smooth operation, also you can check the pump indepentdantly... from your discription it sounds like you have a new cable.

it sounds like your linkage is binding. i had the same problem 3 weeks ago. the pivot shaft rides in a plastic collar. rust / corrosion builds up between the plastic and the shaft. unfortunately spraying wd40 on to the mechanism will not solve the problem. remove the 3 cables, throttle rod and unbolt the linkage. once it is off the truck it must be disassembled by removing the clips. clean and grease. i used a lithium based grease that is supposed to resist water. while the trottle rod is off the vehicle give it a good blast of wd40 or whatever to loosen up the nuts. this will make adjustment much easier. also remember that 1 side of the rod has a left hand thread , while the other is a right hand thread. i didnt realize this and it was a $63. 00 whoops for a new rod from dodge. allow yourself an hourand you should be fine.

Check your return spring for notching. If you go back in the archived posts you'll find this was an early problem for some trucks.

if you haven't changed the throttle cable look for fraying cable strands and review the ball stud on the back of the throttle linkage the others mentioned.

Call Cummins with your CPL number and engine serial number from you data tag on the gear housing to assure you are getting the right end.

They stick/wear out etc. . Maybe this will make the goat and its tender a happy bunch.

Good luck

I had the same problem on the cable w/ the plastic sheath hanging up when entering the cable housing sheath. Its very sensitive to its alignment when your josling the cables in there while changing the filter or something. Its designed too short(naturally). I just manipulated mine till it went straight in again. I also had to find a way to firmly re-attach the return spring which keep falling off. Currently, bailing wire & some tape have done a good job for the last 8k miles.

I second the throttle rod linkage. I let mine go and it eventually would stick at 2000 RPM and I had to manually force the rod/spring back to idle. Clean and lube as mentioned and you should be good to go.
