Turbo Tech 2003 Postponed

The GREAT N.E. SEAFOOD WRENCH DAY

This post is purely speculative at this point, but at many requests to put a stop to rumors, I will fill everyone in on what is being planned.

As it is planned right now, DieselSport Promotions, LLC will be planning a drag race, show-n-shine, and dyno at the Indianapolis Raceway Park June 14th, 2003. And YES there will be a truck pull at the Hendricks Co. Fairgrounds. IRP is the same dragstrip as the NHRA Nationals, they have many facilities for us and there is a large campground across the street from the track called Raceview. We are waiting for final approval from IRP's President at this time. The new title of the event is the Diesel Pickup Nationals.

The Turbo Diesel Register is currently planning a Turbo Diesel Tech to accompany this event. The preliminary schedule is to have Registration June 11th at a campground (TBA) then June 12th seminars from OEM representatives. June 13th will be seminars from the Performance industry. Robert Patton will have more as things develop, so keep an eye out for that information.

Although it won't matter to you Cummins guys, the Ford camp will be hosting a similar event on Indianapolis' Eastside with a plant tour on the 13th.

Our hopes are to get the GM boys involved too.

Saturday all of the diesel camps will converge on Indianapolis Raceway Park for the day's events. Once we conclude the drag race, we form the largest diesel convoy ever to the County fairgrounds for the Diesel Pickup Nationals truck pull.

Reason for moving the event from Muncie was to combine the TDR Nationals and Thunder in Muncie. People don't have to decide between the two events. I can concentrate on the competitions and Robert can start what we think will be a big hit with the turbo diesel technical discussions, dinners, etc.

Once again, this is very early in the game so I will keep you abreast as information becomes available to me. Thank you.

$45 for kids? I was quoted $95 for kids??!!

I was planning on going this year, but $400 just to get in for a family of 4 is too much for this year's vacation fund. Not that $100 makes it that much better, but every little bit helps. I think kids under 16 should be free, but I realize the costs involved for putting on such an event must be high. Oh well... maybe next year:{ :{ :{

MJawsman I dont rember were I cam up with the $45 went and checked the web sight all it says is $95. For a 6 year old an 2 year old I dont thanks so

I spoke with TDR admin, and it appears that the $95 is accurate for anyone getting a name tag and wanting access to events like the plant tour. My daughters love my truck and wanted to see where they manufacture the engines. But by the time we add hotel, food, fuel, and a $400 entry fee, it's a $1000 plus vacation. I can get a cabin for a week at a resort on a lake in northern MN for the price of admission alone! Looks like this year we're going fishing instead.

Like I said before... maybe next year Daimler will throw some sponsership $$$$ at us and we'll be back to a more reasonable entry cost.

The geezers (you know, the only ones that could afford a Cummins in 1989?) that Robert caters to will eat that retirey stuff up. They love dinners and seminars and such.

I'll see you at the track!!!!:D

More reasons to have it this way

That was another concern that I forgot to mention. Just in true Thunder in Muncie fashion, the races and pulls will be minimal cost.

I'm with the rest of ya

As long as it doesn't cost $95 a person I'll be there. :eek:

I didn't even spend $95 the hole weekend at Muncie. :)

It sounds like a really good time though. Hopefully it will come together and I will see every body there next year. :cool:

Turbo Tech 2003 Postponed

In Issue 38, we discussed preliminary plans for a series of technical seminars and a vendor showcase in a gathering at Columbus, Indiana. The timing was scheduled to precede a big diesel drag-race event in Indianapolis (the US Diesel Pickup Truck Nationals) the following weekend. Using this dual event format would perhaps validate long-range, have-to-be-there travel plans.

Unfortunately, the drag-race event to be held in nearby Indianapolis was moved back to its original location in Muncie, Indiana. The bottom line is the difference between big city and small town - the sled pull competition could not be scheduled at the Indy venue, but the Muncie folks were more than willing to work with Eric.

Unfortunately, the Muncie location proves to be too far north for the dual event logistics. Thus, Turbo Tech 2003 has been postponed.

As Eric and the drag-racing community work toward a big, all makes, championship-type race, we will work to feed the event with a turbo-tech type gathering. Texas in the Fall anyone? Stay tuned for further information.

That sounds good, Robert. That would be a good excuse to get down there and meet some of our wild Texas friends. :D IF I can get away from work, that is. :{

Keep us posted!
