I searched the threads but couldn't seem to find the same problem, though there are lots of threads about ticking noises.

Mine ticks when the engine is cold - air temp around 20 celcius/70 farenheit. I'm no expert, but it sounds like a valve/lifter. It's louder and over and above the usual ticking of the engine. The ticking frequency goes up with rpms if you rev it in neutral. After approx. 2 minutes, as the engine warms a little, the ticking goes away.

If it is a bad injector or valve, would the ticking continue as the engine warms up? Or would it go away? Any ideas? It seems to have got worse/more noticeable over the last several months.

2006 Megacab, 50,000 kms/ 30,000 miles. 6 spd G56, no mods except a recently installed Pacbrake.

I have 42,000 on my 06. I have often heard unexplained noises that eventually go away. My 98 was so noisy that I couldn't hear anything else. I have adtopted the theory, if it isn't broke just drive it. Presently it is running very quietly.

no hydraulic lifters in a Cummins. Could be a loose valve adjustment. as the engine warms up metal expands and the gap between the valve and rocker arm will close. Could be an injector the newer trucks with multi injection events seem to have various unexplained noise. hope this is of some help.
