Just out of curiosity what is your fuel pressure looking like? I am waiting for a fleece pump to come in to see if I can fix my surge.

There could be codes stored you don't see.
I think a trip to the dealer is unavoidable.
If the problem is now permanent a diagnosis should be possible.

Thanks.... I don’t know much about this dealer here in Cape May Courthouse. They also own the Ford Dealership next door. I think they use the shop in the. Ford building. Should be fun...

I should rename this post to “Engine Surging at Idle anytime any temp except when you are trying to trouble shoot it”.
All weekend with the traffic in Ny and the snow each time I would let it idle in gear with the engine brake on it would surge and go into regen. I should add that turning off the engine brake lessons the surging but it’s still there...
Flash forward to yesterday after a good run towing a trailer into a good head wind it was running better, not surging. My MPG’s were lower than normal for the trip.
I brought it into the dealer this morning to see what if any codes were stored. Aside from a loss of communication from a while back, no start issue. And a code for the cruise control switch, it’s starting to fail. There were No engine codes. And to top things off the stupid thing ran perfect. No matter how long I let it idle in gear it just ran perfect. I’m really at my wits end. My wife use to think I was insane until she felt the death wobble. I’ve solved that finally. And she heard the surging and Smelt the regen odor.
So I’m not going completely crazy. Yet...

I just don’t know where to look anymore. I priced up a set of injectors. Someone on eBay has a set at a fair price. Who knows if they are any good. Geno’s has a set for way more$$. But a fair deal and you know what you are getting. Still I don’t want to just throw money at this and never find a cause. Of fix it.
My feeling is I should have traded it in way back when the very first time the death wobble reared it’s ugly head. before all the parts; brakes, tires front end parts and a turbo actuator. About $4500 ago. That would have been a really nice down payment on that new Diesel F150 that I saw sitting on the lot in the ruby red color I really like.... I really do not need a 3/4ton truck anymore. But it’s paid for. I just want 5 more years out of it... Starting to doubt if that is even possible.... With out rebuilding the whole truck that is. Just turned 129000 miles. The old Dodge Cummins trucks use to give you 250-350k miles without even a hint of doubt.

I always budget 250.00/month as soon as a car/truck is paid for. It's been historically accurate for nearly every vehicle I've owned...................they always cost money, especially after they are paid for. I heard a good saying the other day, "If you can't afford them new, you darned sure can't afford it USED!"
