I found out today when I went to have this done. The recall states if the tie rod angles are not within specs the left tie rod must be replaced. Also for the '03 to certain '08's unless the vehicle was in for service and had the linkage replaced between July 12, 2002 through Feb 13, 2008 they will not perform this recall, even if you have the new style linkage. According to the L16 recall issued to the dealers and a phone call to Chrysler. Although the info on the NHTSA website doesn't explain this.

You guys that have replaced the your tie rods ends on your own, is Ram-Chrysler going to reimburse you? If you have a recite? They use to on the 970 recall back when.

OP quote: "The shop said the nut holding the rod in place just fell off. "

I installed upgraded linkage on Monday. The nut kit supplied contained nylock nuts. Whoever "fixed" the OP's truck probably reused the old nuts rather than putting on new ones to save a few bucks. Factory SM specified torquing the ball stud nuts to 40 ft-lbs and turning an additional 90 degrees.

I made sure the joints were parallel and checked for binding at each end of travel before I drove it. I also added a stabilizer I purchased off ebay for $120. The stabilizer is 1/4" CNC bent steel, not square tubing with welded tabs like most. It has the normal sector shaft extension and flange bearing. The truck now handles great! I have no indication of bump steer as some others have indicated - probably due to remaining at stock height.

The steering linkage kit I installed has part number 52122362AG and it was purchased about 1. 5 month ago from moparsupercenter.com. I checked and found that Mopar has revised the kit again and it is now at level -AH. I don't know what is different between these two kits.

I am curious if it is like the Defiant steering box stabilizer??

Do you have a pic or a link??

I snipped these pics from the ebay listing. Search for "Dodge Steering Stabilizer"

If I make the statement that this design is just as good as the ones with square tubes or solid bars, I wonder how the comments will stack up?
