Hey all,

If I let the truck sit overnight the upper radiator hose is still hard in the morning, and if I remove the rad cap, it bubles over for a second. From previous Mercedes experience, this is VERY suggestive of a mildly blown head gasket or cracked head. I am wondering if the same is true with these trucks??? I'm not sure when it started, but I'm pretty sure having the timing set one tooth off at 2. 45 mm for a few thousand miles didn't help. The engine doesn't overheat. Let me know if I'm wasting my time pulling the head and changing the gasket! I would rather do it now rather than later.

Thanks,

My crewcab gasser does this. My guess (maybe) is that the radiator cap is bad and doesn't allow expanded coolant to go over to the overflow bottle. Or the hose that runs from the radiator over to the overflow is clogged. So sorry B, can't answer your question, as I've never done anything to try to fix the problem (issue). Guess I'm looking for an answer too:confused:. But I wouldn't pull the head just searching for an answer. No oil in coolant, no coolant in water, no external coolant or oil leaks, no slow or major loss of oil or coolant (out the tailpipe etc), that head is staying put.

After having the most complicated problems with my vehicles for years I tend to forget the easy solutions. I'll check the radiator cap.
