Looking at Toyo Tires Open Country Light Truck LT265/70R17/10 121S OWL to replace the Pirelli Tires SCORPION ATR LT265/70R17 RW 121/118S I am wearing out. Have about 35K on them and while they were pretty good tires was not happy with how they had cuts and splits in the tread.

Just want to know if there are any members input on Toyo vs Pirelli.

Thanks:)

I have had good luck with Toyo. On my second set and have 90,000 miles on the truck. However, next time I will be a bit more careful in choosing... I didn't realize some Toyo's are made in China and I don't like China made tires. I would check each tire and make sure it was made in Japan.

I've had two sets of Toyo Open Country tires and have been very happy with them. However the second set I was told after they where installed were made in China. I'm watching the second set and so far so good but do not like the China made idea. I had a little over 50k miles on the first set pulling a 10lb fiver most of the time. Good luck.

Toyo

I have about 17k on my 295 75 17 MT's and they still look pretty new. About 1/3 of the miles are off road and I'm impressed with the fact that they don't seem to be getting chewed up on the gravel like my Goodyear MTR's did.

I find that they are decent in the snow and awesome in the mud!

I will be buying these tires for all of my rides from now on. :D

I run bfg all terraines and thinking of going with toyo oc... . what type of road/ highway noise are you getting????? I dont like that drone of tires when im driving down the road... . thanks for any input

Road noise isn't too bad at all considering the aggressive tread on the MT's. After having them on for a couple days, I hardly noticed any extra noise.
I think the AT's would be about the same as the ones you have.

The Toyo Open Country AT's are perfectly quiet... not sure about the MT, though I have read that they are realtiuvely quiet for a Mud Terrain tread.

PM Mr. Goat of TDR about Toyo. He's done all the research and has had the best luck with them. I believe he told me he's on his 3rd set and get excellent mileage and good traction in the heavy snow in Ontario, Canada.

The 285-75-17 Toyo AT's have been on national backorder in the US forever. Our local distributor told me something like 2,000 are backordered. I'm supposed to be getting a set by the end of this month. The Nitto AT and Duragrappler are also backordered in this size according to Discount Tire Direct.

I have had 2 sets of Toyo Open Country tires.

The first set 325/60/18's, were down to the wear bars at 20k, because of their width, I was constantly rotating trying to maintain an even wear. They rode and balanced perfectly. Les Schwab Tires allowed me $45. 00 per tire towards my second set.

The second set were 285/75/18's, after about a week on the truck and a trip between Spokane and Helena, I was back to Les Schwab complaining about unbalance and bouncing... . We went through about a dozen tires on their spin balancer, to find four that were not out of round and I would accept.

I never did get used to their rough ride, comparing them to the 325/60/18's. Back to Les Schwab, I will say this, Les Schwab wants to please, I received full credit towards the Toyo MT's that I an now running. So far the MT's have lived up to their hype, as far as ride and noise, they are very quiet for such an aggressive tire, and the ride is great, longevity is yet to be seen. For their cost I am hopeful...

I was just at the dealer today about my 285/75R/17 Toyo OC AT's. I have 18K miles and when new the tread was 17/32. It is now 6-7/32. Before I installed them, I had new ball joints, new shocks and an alignment. The dealer suggested I call Toyo and let them know of my problem, so I did. The CA customer service basically said don't worry till they get to 2/32nds, then bring them back to the dealer and let them evaluate them. I asked her if she would drive a truck in the snow (Im heading to Michigan next week) with 2/32nds tires... ... well that's ourt warranty procure... I called the GA customer service and the person said that the tires have a 40K mile warranty and bring them back in at 3/32nds and have them reevaluated for pro rating.
The dealer that installed them offer's free rotation and balance every 4K and I have had it done.
This is my 4th set of Toyos between my two Dodges and probably my last. I've never got over 30K from any set. Most of my driving is country roads around Pensacola /Mobile.
The sales manager is going to talk to the owner and see what he can come up with. I cant imagine driving these trucks with tires down to 3-4 32nds of tire were, espically in the rain we get down here. I should know tomorrow what they come up with. Unless they damn near give me a new set, I will be shopping for another brand of tire.

After hearing they are made in China, and still the same price, and probably of lesser quality, I think maybe it is best if I stick with the AT Scorpions. I will have 35K on them with Pennsylvania back road driving 50% of the time and they held up better than the factory tires.

My 285-70-17 Toyo AT's were Chinese made, but the "75" larger ones were made in Japan. I wish a tire as strong and precision built as my Toyos have been and a long wearing tread pattern like the BFG KO's existed. I'm sold on this size.

I bought a set of them two weeks ago. Dealer ordered them and had them within 2 days. No B/O's here ~ maybe they're just hard to get in some area's?

Between my dad's and my truck we have had 3 sets of these tires. 2x 265's and 1x 285's. The 265's got 16K and 24K usable miles (not legally bald, but not winter worthy) and the 285's got 25K usable miles (took till 40K to get to legally bald). I consider about 5/32 the min, bare min, to use for winter/hunting.

Despite a 50K mile warranty I never got a penny back, because legally bald and safe tread are not even close to the same. Needless to say I doubt I ever run them again. They have good traction, and are quiet, but way overpriced for the tread life.

Sorry ~ 285/75/17 Toyo AT's
Thanks. I wonder what the deal is down here. The distributor said he could obtain them from Canada. I'll be getting 36,000 safe miles out of these with 24/7 camper load and no maintenance from my buddy who I purchased them from with 21,000 on them. he carried a cabover also,so the tires haven't had an easy life. I've only rebalanced/rotated them once since taking possession.

I have run 2 sets of the 285-17 toyo at tires with barely over 20k miles on each when the wear bars showed up, I had the first set warrantied with the second with the same results. When I sold the truck it was almost time to replace again. They are quiet and have good traction, but wear out way to soon for the cost. I have found BFG A/T' last way longer and now am running BFG M/T's. I will never buy Toyo tires again.
